Your Role at Baxter

This is where your work saves lives.

Baxter develops technologies that clinicians and patients depend on every day. As Senior Manager, R&D Mechanical Engineering, you will lead the team responsible for designing safe, reliable, and manufacturable infusion products. Your impact will extend from early architecture through verification, design transfer, production scale-up, and ongoing product improvement.

This is a high-impact leadership role for someone who wants to build an exceptional engineering organization while remaining close to the technology. You will strengthen design quality and risk-based development, accelerate decisions, develop talent, and unite R&D, Quality, Regulatory, Manufacturing, and external partners around clear outcomes.

Relocation assistance is provided according to our relocation program.

What you'll be doing:

  • Lead, hire, coach, and develop a mechanical engineering team; create an engaged, accountable culture.
  • Own mechanical engineering execution for complex electromechanical infusion systems from concept through verification, design transfer, commercialization, production ramp, and sustaining support.
  • Raise the standard for design quality through disciplined CAD and drawing practices, tolerance analysis, technical reviews, configuration management, documentation, and design for manufacturing.
  • Strengthen Design Controls, DFMEA, Critical Quality Attributes, and product risk management.
  • Drive manufacturing readiness with Operations, Quality, Supply Chain, suppliers, and contract manufacturers, ensuring designs, specifications, tooling, test methods, and production controls are complete.
  • Provide decisive technical leadership in materials, fluid interfaces, sensing integration, injection molding, root cause analysis, corrective actions, reliability, and high-volume manufacturing.
  • Align Systems, Electrical Engineering, Reliability, Quality, Regulatory, Program Management, Manufacturing, and external partners around priorities, ownership, decisions, and delivery commitments.
  • Shape the capabilities of Mechanical Engineering, including modeling and simulation, reliability, rapid prototyping, laboratory capability, and modern product-development methods.
  • Integrate artificial intelligence into engineering and organizational workflows to create innovative solutions that improve organizational performance and customer experience, with responsible quality, security, privacy, and regulatory oversight.

What you'll bring:

  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related technical field.
  • 10+ years of mechanical engineering experience developing complex hardware in a regulated industry.
  • 3 - 5+ years leading engineers and cross-functional technical teams.
  • Experience with Design Controls, DFMEA, risk management, design verification, quality systems, and technical decision-making.
  • Demonstrated success with design transfer, manufacturing readiness, production scale-up, suppliers, or contract manufacturers.
  • Strong communication and organizational leadership skills, with the ability to develop talent and drive execution across functional boundaries.

Preferred Skills

  • Mechanical design experience with infusion systems, fluid paths, pumping mechanisms, sensors, medical-grade materials, injection-molded components, and /or high-volume manufacturing.
  • Expertise in CAD/PDM, tolerance and stack-up analysis, product lifecycle management, reliability engineering, modeling and simulation, root cause analysis, and structured problem solving.
  • Experience improving engineering processes, clarifying ownership, accelerating decisions, and leading teams through organizational change.
  • Experience applying AI-enabled tools to engineering, knowledge management, decision support, workflow improvement, or customer-focused innovation.
  • Exposure to Agile hardware development, lean engineering, or Six Sigma methods.

Why This Role Matters

You will have the opportunity to influence the products, processes, and organization behind critical infusion technologies. The role combines hands-on technical leadership with the mandate to build capability, improve how work gets done, and help a strong engineering team deliver meaningful outcomes for clinicians and patients.
