Building a Career Through Curiosity and Change
When people ask what I do at Baxter, like at a backyard BBQ, I keep it simple. I support our R&D organization in ways that help drive the success and future of the business. In reality, my role as Senior Director of Strategy is broad. I focus on the big picture by connecting teams, aligning strategy to business goals, and helping ensure we are making informed decisions. Whether I am reviewing workstreams or translating customer insights from tools like our Novum dashboard into action, I am always thinking about how we move forward with impact.
"I started my career in mechanical engineering, but my path hasn’t been linear, and that’s by design."
"I’ve had the opportunity to work across marketing, technical support, and sales contracts before moving into strategy. I think of my career as a lattice, not a ladder. I’ve always looked for opportunities to solve problems, especially the biggest pain points facing the business. Each role gave me a different perspective, and all those experiences tied directly into the work I do today.
My advice to others is simple: try things. That's how you really figure out what you enjoy and where you can make the most impact. Curiosity has played a huge role in my journey and it’s something I look for in others, too. When people are curious, they ask better questions, challenge assumptions, and ultimately help us deliver stronger outcomes."
Turning Change into Momentum
Change is a constant, and I genuinely get energy from it. But I have learned that change only works when people understand and accept it. For me, it starts with explaining the why, reinforcing messages consistently, and creating space for open and transparent dialogue. Structure matters, from team meetings to town halls, and so does feedback. Ultimately, change is most successful when you have champions across the organization who help bring others along.
My journey with Baxter hasn’t been a straight line either. I started here in marketing, left to gain new experiences, and then returned. Coming back felt like the right decision for a lot of reasons. I was excited about the growth happening within R&D and the opportunity to be part of that momentum. But more than that, I’ve always felt a strong connection to Baxter’s Mission to Save and Sustain Lives. There’s a sincerity here. In the work we do, in the way we collaborate globally, and in how we support one another. That’s something that’s always resonated with me, and it’s a big part of why I returned.
Where Curiosity Can take you
For me, Baxter has been a place to explore, grow, and contribute in ways I didn’t always anticipate, but that has ultimately shaped who I am as a leader today. If you’re someone who’s curious, motivated by purpose, and looking to make a difference, this is where you can build a career that evolves with you.
