The Maintenance in Training role is a Salaried Non-Exempt position which contributes to our mission of saving and sustaining lives by acquiring the skills and knowledge necessary to progress into a role within Maintenance. Exciting on the job training and classroom opportunities will take place in manufacturing areas, the electrical shop and in the die shop.

What you'll be doing

Created for individuals (internal and external) with previous maintenance training or experience that do not immediately qualify as to go into maintenance.

  • The MIT program requires the employee to complete 1800 to 3000 hours of On the Job (OJT) Training, program length is determined by candidate, their knowledge, and performance while in the MIT program.
  • OJT Areas the MIT will be assigned to Cell 1, Cell 2 or Cell 3 Maintenance if training also in the Electrical Department and Die Shop (Only for those assigned to Cell 2)
  • During MIT’s On the Job training they will be training with current North Cove Mechanics, Supervisors, and Technicians to acquire knowledge of North Cove equipment and processes.

By the end of the MIT program, MIT’s will be expected to accomplish the following:

  • Support plant production by performing repairs, calibrations, and preventative maintenance of plastics, sterilization, and filling/packing equipment.
  • Troubleshoot equipment containing electrical, electronic, mechanical, pneumatic, hydraulic, vacuum, and microprocessor based systems.
  • Rebuilding/modifying production machines and components to support technology improvements and control parts cost.
  • Install manufacturing equipment.
  • Fabricating and installing machine guards and covers.
  • Use of hand tools, power tools, and electrical test instruments relating to control circuits and microprocessor repair.
  • Proven competency in above skills and area specific knowledge will be required for MIT to be placed into a vacant Maintenance Position at program completion.

What you'll bring

  • Comply with all Corporate Specifications, North Cove Standard Operating, Preventative Maintenance, Documentation, and Safety Procedures.
  • Demonstrate proper use and care of hand tools, power tools, presses, metal-working equipment, and electrical test instruments.
  • Perform all required documentation neatly and without errors.
  • Complete all program related or Baxter assigned training activities.
  • Perform maintenance tasks and activities in other areas of plant when required for support of overall maintenance efforts.
  • Perform in hot, cold, noisy, and/or dirty environments.
  • Basic English written and oral communication skills adequate to communicate with other team members.
  • Understand verbal and written safety and quality instructions and read and comprehend written work instructions including words and drawings.
  • Ability to perform basic mathematics.
  • Basic computer skills required.
  • Self-motivated to achieve goals and require little supervision
  • Ability to develop a concept from general requirements.
  • Be able to work in a team environment, interact with other departments and demonstrate a customer service mentality.
  • Driven and dedicated individual with an ability to learn and adapt to new challenges and skills.
  • The position requires the ability to individually lift and carry up to 50 pounds.
  • Must be able to bend/stoop, squat, climb, reach above shoulder level, reach at or below shoulder level, twist and bend at the neck, twist and bend at the waist and balance.

Required Qualifications

Must have at least 1:

  • Associated Degree in Industrial Systems, Mechatronics or similar maintenance related degree.
  • 2 Years of Industrial / Military maintenance experience.
  • 2 Years’ experience as a Production Technician 2 or Original Production Technician (prior to creation of PT2) will be accepted.

At Baxter, we are committed to equitable pay for all employees, and we strive to be more transparent with our pay practices. The estimated base salary for this position is $46,400 - $63,800 annually. The estimated range is meant to reflect an anticipated salary range for the position. We may pay more or less than of the anticipated range based upon market data and other factors, all of which are subject to change. Individual pay is based on upon location, skills and expertise, experience, and other relevant factors. **Due to the nature of this position, the ability to work most holidays, some weekends and plant shut down periods is required.
