Join Baxter as the Sr Director R&D, leading our engineering teams to outstanding achievements. Guide professionals and researchers, set technical goals, and coordinate critical projects. Shape medical innovations and impact global health outcomes.

What are your responsibilities?

  • Partner with Sr. Management to develop long-range business strategies at the divisional level for GSS New Product Development and Sustaining, and PSS Emerging Markets.
  • Build and communicate the global GSS vision, ensuring industry leadership. Encourage your team to action consistent with this vision, establishing high standards and stretch goals. Remove barriers to outstanding performance and hold the team accountable for successful project/task completion.
  • Lead R&D sites in Germany and the Americas, providing leadership to Taicang for GSS and Emerging Markets PSS. Equivalent experience is acceptable. Revenue opportunity: $500M, double-digit vitality index.
  • Ensure business objectives are met by providing leadership through senior management members, guiding prioritization, problem resolution, process clarification, and referrals to appropriate experts.
  • Build a professional network internally within the business unit, across units, and outside of Baxter. Act as the R&D Site Leader for Care Solutions in Germany.
  • Establish a conducive working environment for direct and indirect reports comprising over 160 talents within and across the national R&D team segments.
  • Manage the budget for GSS NPD and Sustaining, exceeding $20M.
  • Manage local Work Council/Union negotiations in partnership with the global/regional HR leader.
  • Own the monthly portfolio and business review for NPD and Sustaining.
  • Ensure organizational processes and systems support attracting, developing, and retaining remarkable talent. Remove organizational barriers to outstanding performance and establish a culture that attracts talent.
  • Identify and develop relevant core technical proficiencies that meet current and future needs of the division. Ensure the development of human and technical resources needed to meet the division's long-term objectives.
  • Build an environment that fosters innovation, including trade secrets, patents, and publications, providing business advantages to the division. Foster a cross-functional collaborative climate that achieves divisional goals together.
  • Select, develop, and retain a multi-disciplined team, including senior management and technical contributors. Define and communicate criteria for success, provide constructive feedback and recognition, and successfully coach, mentor, and empower for outstanding performance.
  • Coordinate and lead all aspects of program development, scheduling, and budgeting, including capital for GSS portfolio. Implement innovative program management tools to monitor program schedules and budgets, evaluate turning points, and improve operational efficiency.
  • Develop budgets for each cost center within scope of responsibility, ensuring efficient utilization of financial resources across multiple global business units and sub-segment R&D sites.
  • Proactively prioritize and balance resource utilization; find opportunities for cross-training and back-filling. Provide recommendations for external resources as needed.
  • Understand and communicate market niches and competitive forces influencing projects. Ensure team objectives align with corporate strategic programs.
  • Cultivate innovative solutions to complex problems with a clinical focus. Build novel products/processes/methods through organizational expertise.
  • Direct team members to effectively transfer technology from design development to implementation.
  • Maintain current knowledge of relevant Quality System Regulations and other regulatory requirements to ensure compliance in all research, data collection, and reporting activities.

We are presently seeking people who have:

  • Bachelor's Degree in a related scientific field with 16 years of experience, MS with 13 years, or PhD with 10 years of relevant work experience.
  • Minimum of 7 years of technical and strategic management experience, including cross-functional teams, resource and budget management, and strategic development.
  • Strong knowledge of subject areas in science and solid knowledge of related fields.
  • Knowledge of quality and business systems.
  • Strong negotiation skills and the ability to influence others internally and externally.
  • Ability to set strategic direction for the organization and communicate the vision broadly.
  • Ability to operate on a much broader scope.
