Your Role at Baxter:

This Quality Technician position will primarily support Microbiology Laboratory operations at the Round Lake Manufacturing facility in Round Lake, IL.  This position encompasses biological and chemical testing support for pharmaceutical products (biologics and drugs) through all stages of the manufacturing process including incoming raw materials, in-process samples and finished product and includes facility environmental and critical systems microbiological monitoring.

What you'll be doing:

  • Conduct biological and chemical testing on raw materials, initial, in-process and final products, and samples collected from environmental monitoring programs at Baxter manufacturing facilities. Work under minimum supervision.
  • Conduct routine facility environmental monitoring (i.e. surfaces, air, particulate and personnel monitoring) and critical systems monitoring (water, clean steam, process compressed air and nitrogen).
  • Use laboratory instrumentation (i.e. particle counters, pH meter, SAS, Autoclave) and computer systems (i.e. LIMS, LabVantage) to collect and record data.
  • Prepare media and reagents used within the lab.
  • Document the completion of testing in notebooks, controlled documents, forms and LIMS and maintain accurate and complete quality records.
  • Maintain data integrity and ensure compliance with company SOPs and specifications, FDA, GLP, QSR and cGMP regulations.
  • Follow, understand and comply with Baxter SOP’s and policies on cGMP’s and safety.
  • Monitor inventory of laboratory supplies, equipment, reagents and media.  Order, receive and stock supplies as necessary.
  • Wash, wrap and prep glassware and laboratory and manufacturing equipment and sterilize using autoclave and/or depyrogenation oven.
  • Perform routine preventive maintenance activities.
  • Perform biohazardous waste disposal.
  • Participate in functions involving teams, which impact production, increase efficiency, solve problems, generate cost savings and improve quality.
  • Follow, understand and comply with Baxter SOP’s and policies on cGMP’s and safety.
  • Maintain a clean, safe and organized lab area and perform regular laboratory housekeeping activities.
  • Support improvement projects and drive efficiency through utilization of LEAN management principles (i/e/ 6S, Kaizens etc).
  • Proactively and cooperatively communicate with peers and management to ensure awareness of progress and issues; recommend solutions when issues arise.
  • Maintain and meet the highest standards in quality, customer service and regulatory compliance. 
  • Contribute to other laboratory tasks and projects as assigned.

What you'll bring:

  • Background knowledge in basic Biology and Microbiology principles including aseptic technique is strongly preferred.
  • Knowledge of GLP and pharmaceutical aseptic processing cGMP requirements is preferred but not required.
  • Excellent communication (oral and written) and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team
  • Self-motivation, adaptability, and a positive attitude in a highly dynamic environment.
  • Ability to lift up to 50 pounds when required.
  • Occasional off-shift and weekend work required.
  • Candiddate must not be allergice to Penicillin or Cephlesporin Drugs.:
  • High School Diploma or G.E.D. equivalent required. Associate degree preferred. Approximately 2-3 years laboratory/mfg experience required.

We understand compensation is an important factor as you consider the next step in your career. At Baxter, we are committed to equitable pay for all employees, and we strive to be more transparent with our pay practices. The estimated base salary for this position is $40,000-$55,000 annually. The estimated range is meant to reflect an anticipated salary range for the position. We may pay more or less than of the anticipated range based upon market data and other factors, all of which are subject to change. Individual pay is based on upon location, skills and expertise, experience, and other relevant factors.
