Purpose:

1. To be the active partner to Japan and ANZ and support APAC as and when needed commercial team in driving business strategy and goals

2. To ensure compliance for all medical affairs related activities with ethics and integrity

3. Building & enhancing the scientific image of Baxter (internal & external).

4. Approaching the role model of the team and sometimes taking the role of leading the organization in the work related to Medical Affairs.

Summary of Responsibility:

  • Establish Baxter’s Clinical leadership for Advanced Surgery therapy (Hemostats and sealants) in Japan and ANZ.
  • Develop, nurture and engage KOLs in scientific activities that differentiate Baxter as a scientifically driven healthcare organization.
  • Contribute towards improving the awareness and surgical outcomes of the Baxter Advanced Surgery portfolio.
  • Manage the clinical communication and training activities of the Business so as to create a superior clinical brand and quality perception of Baxter’s Advanced Surgery products and services.
  • Strengthen the marketing strategies by required medical inputs.
  • Involve in the conduct of Outcome assessment studies for the purpose of region- publications and generation of Scientific Evidence.
  • Educate and train the physicians in Wet labs/CMEs/Symposia/P2P programs/Round Table Meets/Scientific Forums in Conferences.
  • To develop and nurture Medical Affairs team and personnel in Japan and ANZ
  • Organize sub-APAC AS Medical Affairs team.

Summary of Job Function:

a) Provide Medical Affairs related support to - Marketing, Sales, Regulatory Affairs, Clinical Operations, External Customers – our product users (or potential users)

b) Focus on clinical outreach programs.

  • Design/provide medical content for the Marketing team and strategize dissemination of therapy-related communication to support brand management.
  • Provide slides and literature/medical information support to customers related to the therapy area.
  • Review of promotional material & material for submission to regulators.

c) Upgrade clinical skills of the field force by conducting medical product and therapy training.

  • Send regular medical update literature to the entire sales and clinical team and assess through regular testing at monthly & quarterly interval.
  • Trainings for internal & external customers (new hires & on-going)

d) Respond to Field/Doctors/Patient/Distributor queries and complaints with regard to product, therapy and clinical practices. Track all product quality related complaints and issues so as to coordinate complaint mitigation procedure in collaboration with other stakeholders and respond to the complainant appropriately.

e) CMEs, Symposia, Product Introduction meetings. Make medical presentations to the doctors, nurses and key influencers through Continuing Medical Education programs, conferences or other occasions as required.

f) KOL / Medical Opinion Leaders development, nurture and engagements

g) Interact with KOLs along with sales force and cater to any scientific queries on a daily basis.

h) To be the repository of clinical knowledge for the Company in the country; to liaise with the appropriate members of the global Advanced Surgery function so as to facilitate migration and assimilation of clinical data, findings and trends.

i) Participate in national & international medical congresses as Baxter AS representative.

j) People management of sub-APAC AS Medical Affairs team, especially MSLs in Japan and ANZ.

Job Specifications:

Qualification:

MD (Masters in Diagnosis in any specialty) or MS (Masters in Surgery, in any surgical specialty) branch will be preferred

Experience:

Minimum 5 to 7 years of medical affairs equivalent experience preferred in a reputed pharmaceutical/ healthcare company (however will not be a constraint)

Working in knowledge in operation theaters is required

  • Advanced skills and experience with scientific literature review and evaluation is preferable.

  • Good understanding of regional and country culture differences and ability to adapt to the situation

  • Understand roles of collaborators and stakeholders across multiple disciplines and geographies; aware of the specific support needs; Navigates across functions and cultures with an ability to see, adapt and facilitate alignment.
  • Compose oral and written messages and documents that are logical, clear, credible, concise, compliant, and tailored appropriately to audience types; Communicate effectively with a variety of teams and individuals and adapts communication styles situationally.
  • Thorough understanding of the relevant product disease states, treatment landscapes and guidelines with a working knowledge of clinical evidence/medical literature to support treatment options.
  • Effectively makes job function, deliverable, and strategic decisions after gathering appropriate input from various functions; Continuously assesses risk, reviews published literature, raises awareness and proposes appropriate mitigations.
  • Provide input on interpretation and application of policies and regulations to safeguard patients and Baxter for low-risk projects.

  • Demonstrated ability for good documentation practice
  • Detailed understanding of the local and appropriate guidelines & MA Code of Practice that govern Industry interaction with HCPs
  • Demonstrated understanding of the Regulatory Affairs & Country Regulatory requirements
  • A clear understanding of the Investigator Initiated Study process
  • Well organized and able to deal with multiple projects
  • Good analytical skills
  • A Team player
  • Willingness to travel interstate at least 50% of the time
