Summary:

Baxter’s Front Line Care (FLC) business unit (~$1.1B) products enable earlier diagnosis and treatment. The sooner the diagnosis — the more options for effective treatments. Our smart screening devices and diagnostic tools empower clinicians and health systems to identify and treat every patient with confidence, shortening the path to assessment and then to care.  The large and eclectic portfolio includes products for patient monitoring (patient vitals, blood pressure devices, etc.) as well as vision screening & diagnostics which focus on preventing blindness by facilitating early detection and treatment; physical exam & diagnostic tools; diagnostic cardiology connected electrocardiograph products; and respiratory care portfolio.

As the Senior Director, Software Engineering you will lead a global team of Software leaders including technical and functional leaders across the full development lifecycle of embedded and/or digital products. You will provide transformational leadership driving continuous integration/continuous delivery/continuous security leveraging state of the art software methodologies (DevSecOps, Agile etc.).

You will be a key member of the business R&D Leadership Team, responsible for creating and implementing department vision that aligns with the organization's vision and strategic plan; and will co-lead and collaborate on several strategic initiatives with systems, marketing, IT, Quality, and Regulatory functions. You will also be accountable for driving specific operational efficiency activities consistent with business objectives to position organization for the future.

We seek a seasoned leader with early experience software development/coding (C++, Python, Linux), owning design, successfully transitioning to a leadership role providing mentorship in successfully driving products through flawless execution to launch.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Oversee the design, development, and delivery of high-quality software solutions that meet business requirements and customer needs – on time

  • Deploy and leverage Agile and DevSecOps methodologies to providing quality and timely software delivery

  • Create, effectively communicate, and realize vision and strategy for the organization that aligns with the business and patient needs

  • Establish an organization structure that ensures clear accountability and operational excellence

  • Provide strategic planning leadership for resource staffing and project execution with proactive management of technical and project risk to ensure delivery of business commitments

  • Embrace and embed agile ways of working in support of a fail-fast-learn-fast culture and enabling continual improvement

  • Foster a collaborative work environment with strong working relationships within and across businesses and functions, and with strategic external partners

  • Manage day-to-day operations of local and multiple offshore development teams

  • Ensure compliance with relevant regulations, standards, and security requirements in software development activities, including data privacy and cybersecurity regulations

Your Team:

As the Senior Director, Software Engineering, you will report to the VP R&D of the business and will lead a global team of over 100 located in offices in the US, Europe and India.

Your Location:

The role is located at our R&D facility in Milwaukee, WI.  Alternatively, you can work at our facilities in Skaneateles Falls, NY or Minneapolis, MN. Relocation assistance will be provided.   Baxter is committed to supporting the needs for flexibility in the workplace. What You’ll Bring:

•          Bachelor’s in engineering degree with 14+ years’ experience or Master’s degree with 12+ years of experience

•          5+ years of leadership experience in a position at Director level or higher

•          Experience in Medical Device SW development (IEC-62304) in Class II or higher products is required

•          Broad tech stack experience covering both embedded and standalone software products

•          Significant experience leading a cross functional team and working in a global matrix environment

•          Strong team building and talent management skills, and the ability to motivate team members to achieve goals

•          Proven experience in driving product specific and overall portfolio strategy in a global business

•          Must be a strategic, innovative problem solver, and have strong influencing and communication skills

•          Expertise in deployment of DevSecOps concepts, including continuous integration, continuous delivery and continuous operations

•          Advanced knowledge of Agile methods, such as SCRUM, Kanban

•          Track record of delivering complex projects – ideally in a regulated environment

•          Experience with secure code development and secure design concepts

•          Decision making skills, and the ability to set direction regarding the software design, development, test and deployment process

•          Strong strategic vision and problem-solving capabilities

•          Leadership skills, especially in developing and mentoring talent

We understand compensation is an important factor as you consider the next step in your career. At Baxter, we are committed to equitable pay for all our employees, and we strive to be more transparent with our pay practices. The estimated base salary for this position is $208,000 - $286,000 annually. The estimated range is meant to reflect an anticipated salary range for the position. We may pay more or less than the anticipated range based upon market data and other factors, all of which are subject to change. Individual pay is based upon location, skills and expertise, experience, and other relevant factors. This position may also be eligible for discretionary bonuses, and/or long-term incentive.
