Your Role at Baxter:
Our Care and Connectivity Solutions (CCS), a division of our Hospital Systems and Technologies (HST) segment, is comprised of Patient Support Systems (PSS), best known for hospital beds; Global Surgical Solutions (GSS), operating room equipment such as lighting, booms; and Care Communications and Collaboration (CCC), the digital platform that delivers software and information technologies to improve care and deliver actionable insights to caregivers and patients; empower caregivers by connecting every moment of care. The CCS product portfolio generated $1.8B revenue in 2023.
As the Senior Director Program Management, PSS, GSS, you will have overall responsibility for a multi-level global project management group of PSS and GSS. You will be accountable for strategic integration of project business strategies and champion of the project management culture within the senior management team. You will ensure consistent practices throughout all projects from initiation through scale-up. You will collaborate with all related functions across the division as well as with external stakeholders. You will be involved in the divisional prioritization process and accountable for commitments made to the businesses based on anticipated cash flows. You will be responsible for creating and managing a project management office. You will assume significant responsibility for the size, importance, cost and timelines of a critical project and be responsible for meeting major objectives for the company, which is shared with other senior management in the division. As an Agile ambassador, you will use your Scrum or Agile coaching skills and drive for best design practice.
What You’ll Be Doing:
STRATEGY
Partner with Sr. Management to develop long-range business strategies at the
divisional level
Leads key team members in establishing strategy
Applies consistent project management practices across organization
Provides leadership in the prioritization of activities between projects/programs/platforms
Participates in the evaluation process for future development endeavors
Identifies and establishes key objectives
Conducts project evaluations and recommends changes, continuation, or termination as appropriate
RISK MANAGEMENT
Accountable for decisions regarding taking the appropriate risks when there is substantial program or platform involvement
Develops transparent metrics to identify risks in the program early
EXECUTIVE MANAGEMENT
Maximizes business results through continuous improvement in organization's ability to execute programs and projects from initiation to completion and production scale-up
Responsible for the appropriate program structure and standard performance metrics throughout all phases from initiation to scale-up
Contributes to the creation and maintenance of historical databases for the purpose of tracking, trending, learning, and improving decisions regarding program performance and continuance; ensures appropriate linkages of this information to the project prioritization and/or product portfolio process
Maintains direct involvement with R&D, marketing, and regulatory organizations at Baxter and with external stakeholders and participates in business contract negotiations
Supports management decision-making process
CHANGE & HUMAN RESOURCE MANAGEMENT
Coaches project leaders on project management skills, including leadership and stakeholder management, as well as project management practices and resource allocation
Conducts regular performance reviews with project leaders
Acts as promoter to create a project culture that facilitates Accelerated Project Performance
Identifies and helps remove organizational obstacles and behaviors that hinder project success
Enables effective change by combining strategic planning, communication and stakeholder management
Develops consistent metrics for measuring project success and team performance
Ensures knowledge is shared with resources and promotes team learning across projects
Responsible for defining program strategies, developing goals, and orchestrating team appraisal process
Provides guidance for team members in close collaboration with their direct supervisor
Ensures that the development team achieves stated goals
Selects, develops, and manages direct reports
Develops future project management capabilities of indirect reports
FINANCE MANAGEMENT
Manages the dedicated budget and resources
Collaborates with project leaders to plan, forecast and monitor costs, NPV and ROI
Provide financial analysis and justification for new products
Purchase of supplies and equipment as needed up to $100,000
ISSUE RESOLUTION
Eliminates or minimizes barriers to progress
Anticipates potential conflict situations for proactive solutions
Manages conflict situations to result in win-win outcomes
OTHER
Travel 20 – 40%
Your Team:
As the Senior Director, Program Management reports directly to the VP R&D PSS & GSS. You will lead a team of 6 direct reports.
Your Location:
The role is located at our prominent R&D and manufacturing facility in Batesville, Indiana (halfway between Indianapolis and Cincinnati). Relocation will be provided. Alternatively, we will consider candidates located at our global corporate headquarters in the greater Chicago, IL area northern suburb of Deerfield, our facilities in Raleigh, NC, Monterrey, Mexico, Munich, Germany or Pluvigner, France. Baxter is committed to supporting the needs for flexibility in the workplace. We do so through our flexible workplace policy which includes a minimum of 3 days a week onsite. This policy provides the benefits of connecting and collaborating in-person in support of our Mission.
What You’ll Bring:
Bachelor’s degree or equivalent in appropriate discipline, Master’s or equivalent desired
PMI or IPMA or equivalent certification desired
Minimum 15 years in product development in a medical device or biotechnology company with an understanding of hospital and clinical workflows
7+ years of project management experience with increasing complexity, including managing multi-geographic division or enterprise-wide projects
Scrum or Agile coach ideal

We understand compensation is an important factor as you consider the next step in your career. At Baxter, we are committed to equitable pay for all our employees, and we strive to be more transparent with our pay practices. The estimated base salary for this position is $200,000 - $275,000 annually. The estimated range is meant to reflect an anticipated salary range for the position. We may pay more or less than the anticipated range based upon market data and other factors, all of which are subject to change. Individual pay is based upon location, skills and expertise, experience, and other relevant factors. This position may also be eligible for discretionary bonuses, and/or long-term incentive.
