Your role at Baxter

Supports engineering as a technical leader by performing tasks required to implement various types of capital and support projects. Proficiently set-up and operate welding, fabrication and finishing equipment in a safe and efficient manner to complete process welding and metal fabrication within tolerances and finish specified on blueprints, drawings, sketches, and actual samples. Analyzes equipment failures to determine root cause and recommends corrective action. Advises and assists in effecting design changes to improve equipment efficiency and/or reduce cost of fabrication.

What you'll be doing

  • Adheres to all environmental, health and safety SOPs.
  • Able to create sketches and redlines of changes on the shop floor to communicate design alterations to engineering. Provide design feedback in review and project close-out meetings.
  • Completes fabrication, assembly, installation, and support service within time requirements established.
  • Requires the ability to perform sanitary welding and the operation of fabrication equipment to include, but not limited to, metal shears, metal saws, hydraulic and standard sheet metal brakes, hydraulic and manual presses, grinders, sanders, polishing equipment, and other general fabrication shop equipment.
  • Proficiently perform welding operations on critical systems to include but not limited to, the Distilled Water, Process Air, and Solution Transmission systems and documentation as required.
  • Proficiently fabricate and modify parts for the installation, modification, or rebuilding of machinery and equipment, and similar projects. Fabrication projects include, but are not limited to, machine and equipment frames, solution and holding tanks, safety guarding, covers, bins, drain pans, and other structural and sheet metal projects.
  • Ability to install and connect electrical, pneumatic, and hydraulic controls and components.
  • Must use caution while working around the installation of moving machinery or equipment and follow all Lock out/Tag out and Confined Space rules and requirements.
  • Must align with Safety and Arc Flash procedures for work area.
  • Follow all welding requirements per SOP.
  • Maintain 6-S standards for work areas. Perform preventative maintenance as assigned on shop machines and shop facilities.
  • Perform as required repairs to machinery and equipment at manufacturing facilities as required.
  • Occasionally required to work in areas that are hot, cold, confined, noisy, or dirty.
  • Communicate effectively on a technical level with management, engineering, plant personnel and outside technical resource and support services.
  • As needed, travel to plant locations, both foreign and domestic, to install or service equipment.
  • Able to perform other duties as assigned and work overtime as required.

What you'll bring

  • HS Diploma or GED
  • 2-year Technical Welding degree, or demonstrated and proven proficiency in fabrication and welding.
  • Preferred minimum of 5 years metal fabrication and welding experience specific to stainless steel sanitary components,
  • Previous welding certification a plus.
  • Must be able to work with limited supervision, have strong teamwork and communication skills, both verbally and written, good documentation skills and practices, strong computer skills, customer oriented, work safely and effectively under stressful conditions.
  • Solid math proficiency including addition, subtraction, multiplication, division, and fractional knowledge are required.
  • Ability to develop a concept from general requirements.
  • Driven and dedicated individual with an ability to learn and adapt to new challenges and skills.
  • Be able to perform the following processes on Steel, Stainless Steel and Aluminum as it applies to the following: MIG Welding, TIG Welding, Orbital Welding and Oxy-Acetylene gas operation.
  • Experienced proper use of hand tools, power tools, welders, various types of machine shop and sheet metal equipment.
  • Must perform a welding competency test and pass.
  • Ability to lift 50 lbs., carry and climb ladders up to 10ft.
  • Must be able to work in tight spaces and inside equipment.
  • Must be able to bend/stoop, squat, climb, reach above shoulder level, reach at or below shoulder level, twist and bend at the neck, twist and bend at the waist and balance.
  • Ability to exercise independent judgment and draw accurate conclusions based on available information.
  • Must not be allergic to penicillin or cephalosporin drugs.

We understand compensation is an important factor as you consider the next step in your career. At Baxter, we are committed to equitable pay for all employees, and we strive to be more transparent with our pay practices. The estimated base salary for this position is $68,000-$93,500 annually. The estimated range is meant to reflect an anticipated salary range for the position. We may pay more or less than of the anticipated range based upon market data and other factors, all of which are subject to change. Individual pay is based on upon location, skills and expertise, experience, and other relevant factors. This position may also be eligible for discretionary bonuses.
