Your role at Baxter

The Maintenance Mechanic II is an hourly position which contributes to our mission of saving and sustaining lives by ensuring safe and efficient operation of Material Handling Equipment in the Global Logistics Center. Support production manufacturing operations in the repair and maintenance of material handling and personnel transportation equipment.

What you’ll be doing

  • Repair and maintain Material Handling Equipment in the Global Logistics Center. This includes but is not limited to; Electric and internal combustion forklifts, (LGV’s) Laser Guided Vehicles, Personnel transport vehicles, electric and manual chain hoist, manual pallet jacks, trailer jacks, dock boards and dock lock devices, dock doors, stretch wrap machines, conveyor systems, printers, labelers, pallet racking, multi-shifters, battery changing equipment, battery chargers.
  • Requires electrical troubleshooting and repair, hydraulic troubleshooting and repair, mechanical troubleshooting and repair, and general welding.
  • Rebuild and modify material handling equipment to support technology improvements and control parts cost.
  • Perform all Preventive Maintenance on a timely basis.
  • Install Global Logistics Center equipment.
  • Fabricate and install machine guards and covers.
  • Perform general plumbing, pipefitting, and welding tasks.
  • Provide technical training for registered apprentices and manufacturing employees when assigned by supervision.
  • Maintain 6S standards in all work areas.
  • Perform all required documentation accurately and without error.
  • Be knowledgeable of Corporate Specification, North Cove Standard Operation Procedures and Good Manufacturing Practices relating to the Replenishment Center.
  • Perform maintenance tasks and activities in other areas of the plant when required for support of the overall maintenance effort.

What you’ll bring

  • High School Diploma, GED or equivalent
  • Must be at least 18 years of age.
  • Associate degree in a technical related subject area (i.e., Industrial Maintenance) preferred.
  • A minimum of 3 years of mechanical systems repair, industrial maintenance or equivalent is preferred.
  • Use hand tools, power tools and specialized instruments for testing D.C and A.C motor control circuitry.
  • Occasionally required to work in areas that are hot, cold, noisy, or dirty.
  • Must exercise caution while working around moving equipment and equipment on jacks or other lifting devices.
  • Must have basic English written and oral communication skills adequate to communicate with other team members.
  • Understand verbal and written safety and quality instructions and read and comprehend written work instructions including words and drawings.
  • Must be able to perform basic mathematics.
  • Basic computer skills required.
  • Well organized
  • Self-motivated to achieve goals and require little supervision.
  • Ability to develop a concept from general requirements.
  • The position requires the ability to individually lift and carry up to 50 pounds.
  • Must be able to bend/stoop, squat, climb, reach above shoulder level, reach at or below shoulder level, twist and bend at the neck, twist and bend at the waist and balance.
  • Must conform to the North Cove dress code and safety procedures for this job.
  • Perform other job duties as assigned.

**Due to the nature of this position, the ability to work most holidays, some weekends and plant shut down periods is required.

We understand compensation is an important factor as you consider the next step in your career. At Baxter, we are committed to equitable pay for all our employees, and we strive to be more transparent with our pay practices. To that end, this position has a salary pay rate of $27.95, plus shift differential for off shifts. The pay rate is based on several factors including, but not limited to, relevant skills/experience, time in the role, business line, and geographic/office location.
