Summary:

  • The Medical Science Liaison (MSL) functions as a field-based member of the Medical Affairs group in the Pharmaceuticals and Medical Products and Therapies Divisions of Baxter Healthcare Corporation. Medical Science Liaisons are healthcare professionals who identify medical needs through engagement with the healthcare community. They generate and disseminate the evidence needed to ensure optimal impact of Baxter’s products to save and sustain lives. Medical Science Liaisons develop professional relationships with KOLs in key therapeutic areas and act as points of contact with clinical investigators seeking investigator-initiated trial (IIT) support, and with scientific experts to identify opportunities and sites for future Baxter-sponsored research. They participate in training sessions, deliver clinical/scientific presentations, and attend medical congresses and company-sponsored scientific symposia. MSLs collaborate with internal Medical Affairs teams in their therapeutic area of expertise to provide scientific information relevant to the launch of new products and support to key product strategies and publications.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Act as local medical affairs therapy area (TA) expert
  • Develop professional relationships with KOLs in assigned therapeutic areas
  • Assimilate, process, and share medical information with external and internal stakeholders
  • Provide training to HCPs and support in realizing medical educational events
  • Deliver clinical/scientific presentations and attend medical congresses and company-sponsored scientific symposia
  • Facilitate Investigator-Initiated Sponsored Research
  • Lead / support (depending on nature of study) medical studies, assist in coordinating local clinical projects, and contribute to site selection for clinical projects
  • Lead local publication process, publication dissemination and alignment with Local, Regional and Global publication plan
  • Develop medical material, review marketing material
  • Ensure scientific and clinical accuracy for assigned products or brands
  • Support the local TA leadership team in the development of TA, Launch and Brand strategies
  • Support and occasionally conduct local internal trainings and ensure continuous medical education of existing team members and new employees working in the local TA

Qualifications:

  • Formal scientific, clinical education and/or relevant experience
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills
  • Experience must include key opinion leader development to establish and maintain peer-to-peer relationships
  • Expertise in developing clinical presentations, and medical education
  • Comprehension of the clinical and regulatory requirements for a field-based medical organization
  • Effective leadership, interpersonal, analytical and problem solving skills
  • Ability to work independently and in groups in a collegial manner to manage projects and timelines
  • Proven teaching capabilities and understanding of adult learning concepts
  • Effective critical thinking skills and strategy development
  • Basic knowledge of biostatistics and trial design.
  • Computer literacy and experience with public presentations (MS PowerPoint).
  • Experience with literature review, synthesis and analysis.
  • Able to travel within India and in the region

Education and/or Experience:

  • MD/MBBS
  • Minimum of 3 years experience within the healthcare or pharmaceutical/medical device industry
  • Anesthesia or intensive care experience a plus
  • Energetic and able to work independently
  • Good communication skills
  • Positive attitude & strong interpersonal skills
