Sr. DIRECTOR of DATA GOVERNANCE

Role Description

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Director of Data Governance to join our dynamic Information Technology team. As the Senior Director of Data Governance, you will play a crucial role in developing and implementing data governance strategies, policies, and procedures to ensure the effective management and utilization of organizational data assets. Reporting directly to the Chief Information Officer, you will be responsible for establishing a comprehensive data governance framework that aligns with the company's strategic objectives.

This role will initially be focused on the Day 2 KCO program to establish new ERP solutions using best practice COTS software packages which will enable new KCO organization to stand up technology to operate independently from Baxter. The Data Governance Lead will establish data governance strategies and practices by utilizing the Day 2 program deliverables that will ultimately be regular operations of data governance after the program is complete. There may be data governance activities in current state technologies and processes to address in short-term in this role as well. However, majority of the role will be focused on setting up governance for the future through the Day 2 program.   

This position will partner with the other leaders on the Day 2 program to meet overall deliverables of the technology solution focused in the data governance, master data management and data conversion areas in the program. Each of these disciplines will require this leader to bring together internal and external teams to ensure successful deployment of Day 2 solutions since data is critical component of the solution. The role will also partner with Business Process Owner (BPPO) lead to work across the business functions to ensure that all legacy data is cleaned prior to the data cutovers using clear metrics and influence to get completed prior to the implementation. The leader will be on the program leadership team that ultimately implement the systems and processes to deliver on commitments to the business results and metrics. The team will also support hypercare process for each deployment to ensure success metrics are met.

Responsibilities:

Strategic Leadership:

  • Provide strategic leadership, fostering collaboration and innovation within the data governance team and across the business stakeholders responsible for data assets.
  • Contribute to the development of data governance strategies aligned with business imperatives.
  • Ensure Day 2 program has clear data strategy that aligns deliverables with key program milestones including:
    • Legacy data cleansing approach
    • Data cutover testing and conversion quality metrics
    • Data governance metrics that can be used during program and then operationally

Develop and Implement Data Governance Framework:

  • Design and implement a robust data governance framework, ensuring quality, integrity, and security of organizational data.
  • Establish data governance policies, standards, and procedures aligned with industry best practices.
  • Lead the strategic development and implementation of the data governance framework.

Data Quality Management:

  • Oversee data quality initiatives, including data profiling, cleansing, and validation processes.
  • Collaborate with business units to define comprehensive data quality metrics and monitor adherence to established standards.

Data Privacy, Security, and Regulatory Compliance:

  • Ensure comprehensive compliance with data privacy regulations and standards.
  • Take a leadership role in implementing and enforcing data security measures.
  • Partner with Legal, Compliance, and IT Governance to embed risk and regulatory requirements.

Data Stewardship:

  • Define, assign, and lead data stewardship responsibilities across the organization.
  • Collaborate directly with data stewards to address complex data-related issues and ensure a high standard of data quality.

Data Lifecycle Management:

  • Develop and implement advanced data lifecycle management strategies.
  • Personally oversee the definition of data retention policies and lead the execution of archival and deletion processes for obsolete data.

Data Governance Communication and Training:

  • Personally communicate data governance policies and initiatives to stakeholders at all levels.
  • Provide high-level training and support to ensure a deep understanding and compliance with data governance practices.

Collaboration and Partnerships:

  • Establish and lead strategic partnerships with external organizations to stay at the forefront of industry trends and best practices in data governance.
  • Build and maintain effective relationships with key stakeholders.
  • Collaborate with business leaders and other departments to ensure alignment with data governance initiatives.
  • Manage through influence and build trust across key stakeholders.

Promote Data Governance Culture:

  • Advocate for a strong data governance culture across the organization.
  • Promote awareness and understanding of the importance of data governance principles.

Decision-Making Authority and Conflict Resolution:

  • Make critical decisions that impact data governance and align with organizational goals.
  • Exercise sound judgment and strategic thinking in decision-making.
  • Address conflicts and challenges within the team and with stakeholders.
  • Implement effective conflict resolution strategies.

Representation at Leadership Meetings:

  • Provide regular updates to executive leadership on the progress of data governance initiatives.
  • Communicate challenges, solutions, and achievements at the leadership level.

Project Ownership and Leadership:

  • Lead large projects, demonstrating extensive business knowledge and providing strategic direction.
  • Ensure projects align with business strategic objectives.

Performance Evaluation and Continuous Improvement:

  • Evaluate the performance of the data governance team.
  • Establish and monitor key performance indicators (KPIs) for the team.
  • Drive continuous improvement initiatives within the data governance function.

Requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree or higher in Computer Science, Information Systems, Business Administration, or a related field.
  • 5+ years of experience in data management, data governance, data quality, or data analytics.
  • Proven track record of leading data governance initiatives and programs.
  • Proven leadership skills with the ability to manage cross-functional teams and stakeholders.
  • Expert knowledge of data governance frameworks, standards, policies, and best practices.
  • Experience in developing and implementing data governance strategies, roadmaps, and metrics.
  • Ability to drive change and foster a data-driven culture.
  • Ability to prioritize and work on multiple large initiatives simultaneously.
  • Ability to work effectively and influence business partners and technology teams.
  • Strong knowledge of business process flow and/or entity relationship modeling.
  • 10+ years’ experience managing teams and large-scale transformative projects.
  • Familiarity with data privacy and security regulations, such as GDPR and CCPA.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate with stakeholders at all levels.
  • Strong leadership skills, with the ability to motivate and guide a team.
  • Analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to identify and resolve complex data issues.
  • Strong understanding of data technologies, such as data warehousing, ETL, and data visualization.
  • Experience with data governance tools and technologies, such as Collibra, Alation, or Informatica.
  • Strong understanding of industry trends and emerging technologies in data governance.

We understand compensation is an important factor as you consider the next step in your career. At Baxter, we are committed to equitable pay for all employees, and we strive to be more transparent with our pay practices. The estimated base salary for this position is $192,000 - $288,000 annually. The estimated range is meant to reflect an anticipated salary range for the position. We may pay more or less than of the anticipated range based upon market data and other factors, all of which are subject to change. Individual pay is based on upon location, skills and expertise, experience, and other relevant factors. This position may also be eligible for discretionary bonuses, commission, and/or long-term incentive .
