The US & Canada (UCAN) Accounting Center of Expertise (CoE) supports Baxter’s monthly, quarterly and annual close processes and has high visibility to senior leadership supporting Baxter’s UCAN Finance organization. This team focuses on ensuring accurate accounting treatment for complex areas of accounting, evaluating internal controls, and establishing efficient close processes. This position requires strong cross-functional collaboration with various Local Country Finance contacts, the Costa Rica Shared Services Center (SSC) and other members of the Accounting CoE.

The Senior Accountant will assist and prepare internal financial schedules for the execution and analysis of the monthly, quarterly and annual close and forecasting processes for the United States & Canada (UCAN) P&L, Balance Sheet, and Cash Flows. General areas of responsibility include distributor chargebacks, rebates and incentives, Fee-for-Service, and other various governmental rebates (Medicare, Medicaid, etc.) primarily for the UCAN region.  This role will also be the primary contact for ad hoc Company-wide accounting and process improvement/transformation projects, completion of standard and ad-hoc journal entries and account reconciliation reviews.  This role will provide support to all of Baxter’s UCAN businesses, including the Global Pharmaceuticals, Nutrition, Medication Delivery, Renal Care and Acute businesses, and Canada teams, and will also have general project involvement in standardizing LATAM-related revenue accounting processes.

What You'll be Doing:

  • Determine the appropriate accounting treatment for complex transactions ensuring compliance with US GAAP and completion of documentation for audit purposes
  • Partner with cross-functional teams to ensure accurate/timely reporting of monthly financial data, including required US GAAP/management adjustments and accounting support
  • Prepare and assist in review of result (trend, variance, growth, impairment analyses) for areas of responsibility
  • Provide control and oversight for close processes including presenting results to key stakeholders such as Corporate, GBUs, Regional and Local Finance teams
  • Analyze processes and identify opportunities for improvement initiatives including implementation and monitoring post-implementation
  • Manage and prepare month-end close journal entries for JDE and HFM
  • Monitor and prepare entries required per ASC606 revenue accounting

What You'll Bring:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting or Finance required
  • CPA preferred
  • 3 plus years of relevant industry accounting experience
  • Ability to work amidst ambiguity. Ability to understand and present data with professional judgement
  • Strong knowledge of US GAAP and financial analysis, including understanding of internal control requirements and relevant business environments
  • Ability to manage multiple, competing priorities and to effectively escalate or resolve issues to meet deadlines
  • Process improvement and process innovation experience preferred
  • Working knowledge of JDE and HFM preferred
  • Adaptable, self-starter with strong analytical skills and decision-making capabilities
  • Strong interpersonal, communication, and collaboration skills
  • Intermediate level knowledge of Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint)
  • Ability to work in a team-oriented environment, often cross-functionally
  • Respectfully challenge the status quo

We understand compensation is an important factor as you consider the next step in your career. At Baxter, we are committed to equitable pay for all employees, and we strive to be more transparent with our pay practices. The estimated base salary for this position is $80,000 to $110,000 annually. The estimated range is meant to reflect an anticipated salary range for the position. We may pay more or less than of the anticipated range based upon market data and other factors, all of which are subject to change. Individual pay is based on upon location, skills and expertise, experience, and other relevant factors. This position may also be eligible for discretionary bonuses.
