As a Field Network Support Engineer, you will be a key member of Baxter’s service team providing advanced IT technical expertise in support of wired and wireless connectivity of medical devices within large scale hospital infrastructures. Your duties will range from providing networking and product mentorship to Baxter colleagues, to working independently or with customer IT resources solving end-to-end product connectivity issues, including those impacting data flow to the customer’s EMR vendor. You will use social skills to work effectively with multi-functional teams consisting of internal/external, clinical, and technical resources.

*Region coverage: West Coast (remote)*

Candidates for this position must reside on the West Coast; travel up 50% is expected throughout the US. 

What You'll Be Doing:

  • Provide high-level medical product interoperability technical support remotely and on-site as needed
  • Leads customer incidents and problems effectively and proactively communicates progression toward resolution to key internal and external customers
  • Develop advanced product knowledge on the associated Baxter device(s), including inter-connectivity, as it relates to their integration with a customer environment
  • Identify and implement service improvements in areas such as technical issue tracking, customer concern, and common problem resolution
  • Effectively handle and schedule travel to Baxter and clinical facilities, to provide technical support, attend meetings or trainings
  • Effectively run customer incidents identifying root cause and potential solutions
  • Participate in after-hours and weekend call rotation
  • Support other team members as needed
  • Deliver the highest level support for Baxter Infusion delivery systems and associated servers, including HL7/IHE standards - PCD01, PCD03, PCD04 and PCD10

What You'll Bring:

  • Bachelor’s Degree
    • IT-related field (preferred)
  • 7+ years of proven experience in customer-facing technical roles (preferred)
  • 5+ years of experience supporting a networked product in a hospital or healthcare environment
  • Expert level knowledge in networking protocols, TCP/IP, 802.11, 802.1x, and TLS required
  • Strong understanding of PKI, and x509 certificates
  • Ability to lead customer IT engineers during connectivity incident root cause investigations
  • Ability to efficiently communicate technical information to both technical and non-technical personnel
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office tools (Outlook, Word, Excel, Visio, Project, PowerPoint)
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to work effectively in a multi-functional team environment
  • Ability to work independently, under minimal direct supervision
  • Strong analytical, communication, interpersonal and organizational skills
  • Creativity in addressing technical challenges on demand
  • Ability to sit, stand, and work in front of a computer for long periods of time
  • Ability to work in clinical settings such as hospitals and clinics and abide by customer personal protective equipment (PPE) requirements including, but not limited to gowning and facial masks

Preferred Qualifications

  • Previous experience supporting networked medical products, ideally infusion systems
  • Experience working with Electronic Medical Record (EMR) applications (Cerner, Epic, Meditech, etc.) are a plus
  • Proficiency with IHE profiles, HL7, FHIR and XML standards
  • Prior experience with medical device/EMR interoperability
  • CCNA or CCNP, CompTIA Security+, Network+, or equivalent
  • Experience working with Linux a plus
  • Computer programming experience in C#, or Python, a plus

Travel Requirements:

  • Ability to travel 25- 50% domestically, including overnight stays

At Baxter, we are committed to equitable pay for all employees, and we strive to be more transparent with our pay practices. The estimated base salary for this position is $88,000 to $121,000 annually. The estimated range is meant to reflect an anticipated salary range for the position. We may pay more or less than of the anticipated range based upon market data and other factors, all of which are subject to change. Individual pay is based on upon location, skills and expertise, experience, and other relevant factors.
