Your Role at Baxter:

Baxter’s Front Line Care (FLC) business unit products enable earlier diagnosis and treatment. The sooner the diagnosis — the more options for effective treatments. Our smart screening devices and diagnostic tools empower clinicians and health systems to identify and treat every patient with confidence, shortening the path to assessment and then to care.  The large and eclectic portfolio includes products for patient monitoring (patient vitals, blood pressure devices, etc.) as well as vision screening & diagnostics which focus on preventing blindness by facilitating early detection and treatment; physical exam & diagnostic tools; diagnostic cardiology connected electrocardiograph products; and respiratory care portfolio.

As the Director of Market Access you will be responsible for working with Payers (Government and Commercial) to expand patient access to Front Line Care (FLC) devices.  Additionally, you will focus on coverage policy development and expansion, establishing payment rates with payers and other reimbursement policies that restrict patient access.  Near Term goals include reimbursement development for new technology and AI enabled products as well as Medicaid coverage expansion. 

What You’ll Be Doing:

  • Develop and execute Market Access strategy for Front Line Care products, including reimbursement development and payer policy development / revisions, with collaboration from Marketing, Sales, Research and Development, Medical and Government Affairs.

  • Assess and communicate the coding, coverage and payment landscape for current and new devices. Develop and execute specific strategies to enable optimal reimbursement and coverage for patients.

  • Collaborates with Medical Affairs and HEOR to close evidence gaps and design trials and analyses that will drive positive coverage decisions.

  • Develops and effectively communicates clinical and economic value propositions to payer decision makers.

  • Negotiates coverage, pricing and policy language with government and commercial payers for cardiac monitoring services.

  • Monitors and participates in public comment process for proposed policies.

  • Strategic thought leader regarding US and OUS Market Access landscape, as it relates to changes in payer coverage and payment policies, strategy and reimbursement development for new products, coverage expansion opportunities for existing products.

  • Effectively manage key Payer relationships at the customer C-suite level, as well as the operational level.

  • Establish efficient process and a measurement tracking system to ensure progress towards business growth goals.

  • Serve as a member of the FLC Reimbursement Leadership Team.

  • Actively collaborate with other FLC business units and functional teams pursuing reimbursement of Baxter technologies and services.

Your Team:

As the Director Market Access, you will report directly to the VP, Reimbursement Patient Services.  Furthermore, you will lead a team of 3 as well as collaborate across the Commercial organization.

Your Location:

The role is located at our Respiratory Health facility in St. Paul, MN.  Relocation assistance will be considered.  Additionally candidates residing in Houston, TX, Bellevue, WA, Skaneateles Falls, NY or Deerfield, IL will also be considered.  Baxter is committed to supporting the needs for flexibility in the workplace. What You’ll Bring:

  • Bachelor’s degree required with focus on Healthcare, Health Economics, Public Health or Business

  • 10+ years required Healthcare Reimbursement / Medical Device related experience with demonstrable evidence of successfully partnering with customers and achieving shared goals and outcomes; Pharmaceutical industry reimbursement will also be considered

  • Experience in developing reimbursement (coding, coverage and payment) for new technologies.

  • Prior experience evaluating and presenting Clinical Outcomes and Health Economics data

  • Direct experience working with Government or Commercial payers & their decision makers / Medical Directors

  • Possess extensive knowledge of Medicare & Medicaid reimbursement and programs, Federal Marketplace (VA/DoD), National Health Plans and Regional Health Plans

  • Proven track record in reimbursement development for new technologies and coverage expansion of clinical indications for existing technologies

  • Expertise in government and commercial plans, payer systems and knowledge of industry trends in pricing and reimbursement

  • Proven experience building, maintaining and leveraging strategic relationships, including government officials

  • Proven success in ability to negotiate and influence cross-functionality and across customer stakeholders

  • Proven track record of success in managing multiple payer accounts across all payer segments

  • Understanding of Healthcare Regulatory requirements, payment methodologies, CPT and HCPCS coding, Compliance, Third Party billing, appeals and external payer audits

  • Proven track record of analytical ability, operational excellence and detail orientation

  • Strong collaboration, stakeholder management and communication skills-including verbal, written, negotiation and overcoming objections

  • Ability to read complex payer / government regulations and policies

  • Verbal, written and presentation skills for various audiences, including regulatory and clinical content

  • Strong commitment to work collaboratively across functional teams

  • Strong Project Management skills

We understand compensation is an important factor as you consider the next step in your career. At Baxter, we are committed to equitable pay for all our employees, and we strive to be more transparent with our pay practices. The estimated base salary for this position is $200,000 - $275,000 annually. The estimated range is meant to reflect an anticipated salary range for the position. We may pay more or less than the anticipated range based upon market data and other factors, all of which are subject to change. Individual pay is based upon location, skills and expertise, experience, and other relevant factors. This position may also be eligible for discretionary bonuses, and/or long-term incentive.
