Roles and Responsibilities

  • Support R&D projects, manufacturing facilities and internal/external laboratories by providing expertise and continuous improvement in the areas of infection prevention, disinfection qualification/validation, microbial control, antimicrobial efficacy, and medical device reprocessing testing and validation.
  • Develop cleaning and disinfection related recommendations, plans, testing and report around the disinfection and cleaning of Baxter medical devices and successfully communicate recommendations to key stakeholders.
  • Demonstrated understanding and technical expertise of theories/practices of a variety of disciplines within the microbiology landscape.
  • Design/perform testing in support of medical device and pharmaceutical projects within negotiated deadlines
  • Demonstrate teamwork by providing support within group when needed to other functional team members supporting validations such as container/closure integrity, bacterial endotoxin and bioburden/sterility.
  • Conducts research/designs strategies to achieve the technical vision for a new or improved product/process/method or to prove a new theory, applying a solid understanding of theories/practices including those from other disciplines outside the primary area of expertise. Reach conclusions based on research analysis/incorporate recommendations into larger projects.
  • Lead role in the writing, executing, evaluating and reviewing microbiological protocols/reports. Provide guidance/interpretation of local, regional and global regulations and evaluate/strengthen the current requirements in the Global Quality Policies (GQPs)
  • Maintain current knowledge of relevant Quality System Regulations and other regulatory requirements related to R&D (product development, design and safety) to ensure compliance in all research, data collection and reporting activities.
  • Implement new or improved techniques and procedures around specific tasks; write and implement SOP's. Implement research outlines for large scientific projects. Apply state-of-the-art techniques in the area of expertise to develop new or improved products
  • In addition to having an in-depth knowledge and understanding of GxP and related regulations and guidance, is able to provide expert insights into such regulations so as to facilitate efficient product registration and/or is an active participant in the generation, review, adoption and interpretation of such regulations.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in microbiology, or related discipline, with 10+years’ relevant experience, OR MS with 5-7 years’ experience, OR PhD with 0-2 years’ experience
  • Direct microbiology laboratory experience required. 
  • Knowledge in container/closure integrity (physical and microbiological methods), bacterial endotoxin, biological indicators and bioburden/sterility validations desired.
  • Proficient and working knowledge of relevant GMPs, FDA guidelines and industry standards (ASTM, ISO, PDA, USP).
  • Able to design and implement project/studies in own area of expertise, as well as provide support outside area of expertise.
  • Must demonstrate effective supervisory/leadership skills.
