Reporting directly to theSeniorDirector, Business Development EMEA,and as a member ofbothBaxter’sEMEA and Pharma GBUBusiness Development teams, you will accelerate growth by helpingdevelop and executean aggressiveinorganicbusiness development strategy for Baxter’s Pharmaceuticals Global Business Unit (“GBU”)in EMEA.This will includeidentification, prioritization andexecution ofcomplex business development opportunitiesincluding mergers, acquisitions, licensing and distribution deals.
The success of the Business Development Manager will rely heavily on an ability to be an active participant in the strategy development process alongside senior leadership. This will include thorough assessments of the generic pharmaceuticals market landscape to identify the most attractive opportunities and devising inorganic growth pipelines to execute against. It will be the BD&L Manager’s responsibility to be the accountable deal lead from initial contact with potential targets, through to integration of executed transactions.
Work cross-functionally with the Pharmaceuticals GBU and EMEA leadership teams to identify gaps in the current portfolio and then develop roadmaps to fill those gaps via acquisitions, distribution deals or licenses.
Synthesize complex clinical evidence and market data to inform development of strategies and business cases to support potential transactions.
Conduct rigorous quantitative and qualitative analyses to identify key value drivers of new opportunities.
Build out detailed market models that flow into target pro-forma financials and ultimately into discounted-cash-flow valuation models.
Create materials required for diligence processes and deal pitches.
Build analyses, insights and recommendations around targets; support analyses with sound data collection and strategic thinking.
Close attention to detail on all aspect of market and valuation models.
Manage the continued development of monthly deal pipeline reviews and associated metrics.
Project management and cross-functional leadership to ensure smooth process for due diligence and integration processes.
Create tools and outputs that support decision making around deal ranking, deal valuation and the formation of theother relatedbusiness development decisions.
Develop and maintain a target database containing information on markets, competitors and technology pertinent to the company's business interests.
Clearly communicate model assumptions and outputs to senior business leadersincluding the Chief Executive Officer and Chief Financial Officerto succinctly demonstrate market opportunity and keyvaluedrivers.
Creative approach to finding solutions and problem solving when precise assumptions are difficult to attain.
Acts as a corporate representative and negotiator in contact with target candidate companiesand theirthird partyadvisors.
Experience in business development & licensing (i.e. corporate development), investment banking, management consulting, private equity and/or venture capital experience.
Specific experience in generic pharmaceutical industry and preferably within injectables/ Hospitals business.
Strong pharmaceutical background. Combination of technical (e.g. pharmacist) and commercial (e.g. pharmaceutical marketing or business development) experiencepreferred.
Understanding of thekey influencers and stakeholdersinvolved inthe EMEA pharmaceutical market(e.g. regulatory bodies, pricing authorities, healthcare providers, etc).
Strongnetwork within the generics pharmaceutical industry and knowledge ofcompetitive landscape.
Proven track record of deal execution, particularly around creative deal structuring to drive value and expediency.
Excellent quantitative and qualitative assessment skills, critical thinking skills, and abilityto develop strategic plans and businesscases.
Knowledge of external healthcare business environment along with an understandingof competitive history and ability to forecast potential nextmoves.
Bachelor’s degree is required. MBA preferred.
