Baxter offers a robust summer internship program based in the Chicagoland area that provides meaningful work assignments and projects that immerse students in Baxter’s culture designed to provide practical work experience highlighting what an individual would do in a similar full-time role with the ability to make a business impact. You'll be paired with a mentor, receive support from your manager, and have access to the entire Baxter employee community to ensure your success. The R&D Product Development Intern, Self-Contained Applicator will work directly with an international cross-functional group that includes R&D/Product development, Medical Affairs, Clinical/Pre-Clinical, Regulatory, Quality, and Supply Chain (Manufacturing, Engineering Operations, Purchasing) on managing multiple projects associated with new product development of a Self-Contained Applicator. The main responsibilities of the role are supporting design, verification testing, customer validation, manufacturing development and transfer to production. The team is currently at the prototype stage and has demonstrated feasibility, now is time for the hard work of development!
Project:
The Self-Contained Applicator is a product idea to use self-contained CO2 cartridges to provide pneumatics that deliver spray applications of biologic and synthetic sealants. Baxter will design a new device that consolidates hospital gas supply, pneumatic regulators, delivery tube-sets, and applicator tips into one simple device. The design requires mechanical (pneumatics, component design, assembly design) and biomedical (tissue anatomy, hemostasis/bleed control) to reduce time-to-table and to simplify ease-of-use while making the therapy more effective. The impact is having a one of a kind easy-to-use device that improves the treatment of surgical bleeds and reduces time-to-table will improve the effective use of biologic and synthetic sealants.
Requirements:
Baxter is targeting students with proven academic performance and leadership potential. Ideal candidates will combine technical and business knowledge with analytical strength and creative problem-solving abilities.
- Rising Junior or Senior pursuing a Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical, Biomedical, or Industrial Engineering (Interest in Medicinal Science preferred).
- GPA of 3.0 or above
- Strong verbal and written communication skills
- Demonstrated leadership qualities and problem-solving skills
- Positive attitude, team-oriented, adaptive to change, and collaborative
