Responsible for ensuring that the Company's global manufacturing network is positioned to be a source of competitive advantage, capable of delivering long-term performance needed by its businesses.  Leads the Company's Manufacturing strategic planning processes / projects, including the annual strategy review, in-depth review of key strategic issues and investment prioritization. Ensures the best use of organization resources in defining and planning goals, objectives and programs to achieve the strategic plan and to achieve growth and profitability.

**Preferably, this role is in Deerfield, IL but could also be open to Anywhere, USA.

Position Overview

  • Develop and execute the External Contract Manufacturing (ECM) strategy with a focus on business sustainability, growth and cost savings.
  • Lead strategy for optimization of plant network, supply chain, and manufacturing capabilities and determine current and future direction for the Integrated Supply Chain of the Advanced Surgery portfolio.
  • Develop long term plans and prioritization to ensure Integrated Supply Chain is designed to deliver on business needs including assessment of supply continuity risk and development of associated mitigation plans. Present proposals to senior leadership in Integrated Supply Chain based on prioritization methodology and facilitate alignment of funding approach between functions.
  • Lead Long Term Planning (LRP) process related to capacity and demand analysis and support development and review by senior supply chain leadership and business leadership of mitigation plans to maintain utilization healthy levels.
  • Develop and execute the External Contract Manufacturing (ECM) strategy with a focus on business sustainability, growth and cost savings.
  • Lead strategy for optimization of plant network, supply chain, and manufacturing capabilities and determine current and future direction for the Integrated Supply Chain of the Advanced Surgery portfolio.
  • Partner with contract manufacturers to ensure quality, delivery and cost meet or exceed Baxter’s expectations.  
  • Serve as liaison between company and External Contract Manufacturer network.
  • Provide oversight to the manufacturing, quality and development of products performed at ECM’s and internal Baxter facilities.
  • Manage contracts to ensure delivery on company expectations, and meeting budget targets, cost savings and capacity management.
  • Partner with other Integrated Supply Chain functions to ensure continuity of product supply.
  • Monitor key ECM and dedicated plant operating mechanisms
  • Work with marketing teams on building operational capabilities for new trends and products.
  • Coordinate communication between all applicable internal and external functions/organizations regarding ECM operations.
  • Analyze actual to budget cost variances, identify root cause, and drive cost improvement.
  • Manage issues to ensure efficient and effective resolution.  
  • Lead performance business reviews with suppliers/contracting organizations.
  • Responsible for ECM and Advanced Surgery operations metrics for scorecard/dashboard.
  • Partner with Quality Assurance to support/perform supplier audits, quality investigations, and non-conformance analysis by providing appropriate product/process expertise.
  • Support Due Diligence evaluations of potential Business Development Target organizations
  • Serve as Integrated Supply Chain point of contact/coordinator for all Integrated Supply Chain New Product Development/Introduction deliverables and requirements.


  • Technical Skills appropriate to the assigned ECM Category, including: cGMP-Regulations and Regulatory Affairs, Quality Control and Assurance, and Operations.
  • Familiarity / Experience with a structured New Product Introduction/Launch process.
  • Strong critical thinking and problem-solving skills.
  • Cross functional team leadership; ability to work and influence across business units and functions, multi-site, multi- cultural. Proven ability to hold others accountable.
  • Ability to develop and manage partnerships.
  • Ability to drive and sustain transformational change.
  • Strong financial acumen preferred.
  • Executive level presentation skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to execute complex plans on time and on budget.
  • Ability to think strategically and to provide clear direction to others.
  • Superior analytical, organization, and project management skills.


  • Bachelor’s degree required. Master’s degree or MBA preferred.
  • Engineering degree preferred.
  • 10 plus years of Medical Device / Pharmaceutical / Biologics industry experience working with Marketing, R&D, Supply Chain, Manufacturing and Quality required.
