Your Role at Baxter

The Maintenance Apprenticeship program is crafted for Baxter colleagues interested in moving into a maintenance career. This is a State Registered Apprentice program and nationally recognized by Department of Labor, upon program completion the apprentice will receive their Journeyman Worker Certification.

The Apprenticeship program consists of a minimum of 5,200 to 6,000 hours of On the Job Training (OJT) roughly 3 Years. OJT training will be completed in: Cells 1, 2 & 3 Maintenance, Sterilizer Maintenance, Machine Shop, Welding Shop, Electrical Department and HVAC Department.

The Apprentice will be required to take college courses at McDowell Tech or other area community college to complete related instruction portion of the Registered Apprenticeship.

What you'll be doing

  • Train with current North Cove Mechanics, Supervisors, and Technicians to acquire knowledge of North Cove equipment and processes.
  • Troubleshoot equipment containing electrical, electronic, mechanical, pneumatic, hydraulic, vacuum, and microprocessor-based systems.
  • Rebuilding/modifying production machines and components to support technology improvements and control parts cost.
  • Fabricating and installing machine guard and covers.
  • Use of hand tools, power tools, and electrical test instruments relating to control circuits and microprocessor repairs.

By the end of the 3-year rotation, apprentices will be encouraged to accomplish the following:

Support plant production by performing repairs, calibrations, and preventative maintenance of plastics, sterilization, facilities and filling/packing equipment.

  • Final assigned Department will not be chosen till Apprentice is near the end of the program.
  • Proven proficiency in above skills and area specific knowledge will be required for Apprentice to be placed into a vacant Maintenance Position at program completion.
  • The 3-year Apprentice will be assigned one of the two standard training schedules Mon-Fri or Sun - Thurs depending on the needs of the training area.
  • Candidates will work overtime as required and will be moved to night shift at program completion.
  • Encouraged to work in hot, cold, noisy, and/or dirty environments.

What you'll bring

  • Proven technical competence, initiative, and competency.
  • Examples of areas applicants can demonstrate required Qualifications.
  • Maintenance Related courses - education provided by a technical institute, college or branch of the military that is verifiable.
  • Production Technician Training.
  • Equipment related experience gained from previous job assignments at Baxter, at other industries or businesses, hobbies, or during self-employment.
  • Use of Hand Tools, Power Tools, Test Instruments & Precision Measuring Devices.
  • Driven individual that takes initiative to tackle equipment problems on their own or assist with repairs.
  • Taking Industrial or Electrical classes at the collegiate level
  • Has a job with a technical capacity (Works with Automation, equipment adjustments and changeovers.)

We understand compensation is an important factor as you consider the next step in your career. At Baxter, we are committed to equitable pay for all employees, and we strive to be more transparent with our pay practices. The estimated base salary for this position is $52,800 - $72,600 annually. The estimated range is meant to reflect an anticipated salary range for the position. We may pay more or less than of the anticipated range based upon market data and other factors, all of which are subject to change. Individual pay is based on upon location, skills and expertise, experience, and other relevant factors.
