
Sr. Director, BD & Strategy - Connected Care

- General
- Run global strategy and BD with 3 direct reports.
- Interacting with senior-level internal and external leadership, including managing discussions and relationships with senior-level executives and advisors outside the company.
- Develop team and ensure they are fulfilled and aligned to the mission.
- Define clear goals and objectives (including goals and KPIs).
- Be a culture carrier for the organization and drive positive, ownership mindset.
- Business strategy generation (Connected Care Group)
- Guide and influence prioritization of people and resources in respect to the strategy.
- Have visibility to the P&L and work closely with leadership/finance to inform decision making on spending and assess the sales trajectory.
- Support market research and analysis of market trends to inform strategy.
- Work closely with cross functional partners including medical, regulatory, region/country teams to develop strategies to grow penetration, & improve commercial execution.
- Ensure voice of customer is continuously monitored and included in defining strategy.
- Financial forecasting, long range planning, and business case development.
- Provide additional support to the business as necessary, including input into annual strategic planning process, market research studies, and new business opportunities.
- Capture and communicate customer/competitive intelligence and other learnings back across the Baxter organization.
- Be an expert on competitors’ connected care portfolios.
- Manage and guide communication across businesses, leadership, teams, and to broader employees (e.g., townhalls and internal memos).
- Inorganic growth strategy and execution
- Lead the research, analysis, and evaluations for business adjacencies, market growth initiatives, and potential partnerships (including M&A, JVs / partnerships, venture investments, equity investments, and co-development arrangements).
- Drive recommendations and business development-related decision making, e.g. which products, markets, potential targets to pursue and why.
- Build, manage, and track a deal pipeline on an ongoing basis.
- Interact with senior-level internal and external leadership, including managing discussions and relationships with senior-level executives and advisors outside the company.
- Conduct M&A analysis, including strategy work, clinical value, pitch creation, leading and working with cross-functional teams with emphasis on clinical aspects.
- Explore white-space, adjacency, and geographic BD targets; Need to be creative in scouting opportunities – considering potential for financial and/or strategic synergies.
- Create external network of relationships with VCs, advisors, and target companies.
- Act as key interface to the corporate Business Development team for adjacencies & scouting.
- Manage alliiances and drive success with external partnerships.
- Connected Care strategy (Baxter-wide)
- Communicate with internal businesses and marketing teams to understand and document existing strategy efforts in connected care, digital health, and healthcare IT.
- Work across the organization and cross-functionally to guide and arrive at a Baxter-wide connected care strategy that incorporates each business’ efforts and highlights common threads.
- Identify gaps and common goals for a multi-year vision that each business can strive toward and that matches with their respective stratgies and tactics.
- Inform and support connected care growth opportunities – including inorganic efforts (e.g., venture investment and acquisitions).
- Manage and guide communication plans across the organization and help package for external use.
Qualifications: To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily
- Experience building market landscapes, deal pipelines, business cases, market models, and developing strategies
- Proven ability to diagnose problems, develop solutions, & execute strategies to drive results over the short and long term
- Ability to “connect the dots” at a macro/micro level and show critical thinking that considers the multiple factors that need to be considered when devising strategies to drive long-term growth
- Skilled at problem solving -- including leveraging frameworks, hypothesis generation, and managing projects and stakeholders
- Comfortable presenting to CEO, CFO, and senior company management both internal and with partners; prior demonstrated success with management presentations is a must
- An ability to operate with ambiguity in volatile environments, leading a function in and through the face of change, setting clear direction and guidance for the team you lead
- Ability to work and influence across business units and functions. Demonstrated track-record of leading and influencing in a matrixed environment
- Excellent written & verbal communication and presentation skills
- Needs to work independently without supervision on most initiatives
- Team player with a strategic partnership mindset.

- Ability to travel up to 25% of the time, including international.
- 3 days in office per week at Deerfield (IL) or Raleigh (NC) office. Secondary preference for the Skaneateles (NY), Batesville (IN), Bellevue (WA) offices
Education and Experience:
- Requires a bachelor’s degree. MBA and/or graduate degree is a plus.
- 12+ years of markets or deals experience (preferably in Healthcare and/or Healthcare IT). Investing, equity research, investment banking, management consulting, venture capital, or corporate M&A experience is required.
- Demonstrated career progression in previous roles
We understand compensation is an important factor as you consider the next step in your career. At Baxter, we are committed to equitable pay for all employees, and we strive to be more transparent with our pay practices. The estimated base salary for this position is $216,000 - $297,000 annually. The estimated range is meant to reflect an anticipated salary range for the position. We may pay more or less than of the anticipated range based upon market data and other factors, all of which are subject to change. Individual pay is based on upon location, skills and expertise, experience, and other relevant factors. This position may also be eligible for discretionary bonuses, commission, and/or long-term incentive.
