Job Summary
Baxter’s Front Line Care business products expand Diagnosis & Therapies in the context of connected monitoring, cardiology and respiratory health. The earlier the diagnosis & treatment for these patients – the better the quality of life. The $1.2B business portfolio includes products for Cardiology, Patient monitoring, airway clearance, ventilation and Intelligent diagnostics.
As a Senior Principal Electrical Engineer, you will lead the development of creative solutions to challenging problems related to sustenance engineering of Front-Line Care business. You will possess strong technical capabilities, excitement and energy for product development, and a passion for their work and the impact it has on saving and sustaining the lives of patients. This is a strategic role aimed at expanding technical and organizational breadth across: Electrical Hardware design, Embedded systems and controls integration, System-level & Sub-System-level verification, validation, and quality assurance. You will drive end-to-end product realization, Sustenance engineering and product lifecycle management & New Product Development (NPD) from concept through commercialization, Innovation and technology strategies. You will collaborate with global cross-functional teams to deliver safe, compliant, high-quality medical devices while shaping the future of R&D capabilities.
What you’ll be doing
- Defines design requirements and hardware specifications based on customer or user requirements.
- Contributes to the development and documentation of electronic system architectures.
- Lead the creation of designs of analog and digital electronic circuit schematics for microcontroller/microprocessor-based systems, meeting performance objectives.
- Analyzes circuits using calculation and simulation methods to assess performance limits, effects of environmental and load stress, and timing interfaces to ensure consistent performance in safety critical applications.
- Good knowledge of Power Integrity, Power Sequencing, LTSpice, Pspice.
- Completes deliverables related to design of systems and sub-systems of the overall electrical architecture.
- Must have strong experience in designing product with multiple power sources like AC/DC, DC/DC, Lithium-Ion Battery Pack, AA Battery.
- Develops, modifies, and approves electrical design documentation, specifications, and drawings.
- Supervises/coordinates an engineer and/or technician on assigned work
- Defines appropriate test methods to verify designs meet their performance requirements.
- Directs the layout of circuit assemblies to meet emissions and immunity performance requirements and design for manufacturability guidelines.
- Transitions products to manufacturing and ensures robust products and manufacturing processes.
- Develops and maintains an effective and corroborative working relationship with internal and external development partners.
- Resolves competing constraints between interrelated functions (engineering, purchasing, manufacturing, regulatory, marketing, etc.) required to deliver the product to market.
- Executes protocols and testing required to validate the safety and effectiveness of the design(s).
- Leads the troubleshooting and problem-solving efforts related to electrical aspects of devices/ subsystems.
- Creates and communicates design/test plans, tasks, deliverables and status. Manages time and resources to meet committed schedule milestones
What you’ll bring
- Bachelor’s or master’s degree in electrical/Electronics Engineering.
- 15+ years of experience in Design and Development of Medical devices or complex electro-mechanical product development
- Proven experience in global, matrixed R&D environments.
- Strong knowledge of:
- Electrical systems (electronics, embedded, control systems)
- System integration and verification methodologies
- Deep expertise in electro-mechanical system design and integration
- EMI/EMC design in adherence to regulatory requirements.
- System engineering, requirement flow down, risk management processes.
- Understanding of IEC60601, UL, ANSI and ASTM standards
- Simulation tools like Matlab, LT spice, Signal Integrity, Power integrity.
- Experienced in power supply, motor drive designs with interactions across multiple subsystems.
- Regulatory standards (FDA, ISO, IEC)
- Quality systems and design controls
- GMP, validation, and manufacturing processes
- Strong people leadership, coaching, and organizational development skills
- Ability to define and execute R&D strategies and influence senior stakeholders
- Expertise in decision-making under ambiguity and complex problem-solving
- Strong communication and stakeholder management skills
- Demonstrated experience in accomplishing objectives. Able to deliver on multiple projects simultaneously.
- Work effectively with cross functional teams including quality, program management, manufacturing, regulatory, medical, and clinical.
- Exposure to Six Sigma methodologies like DFSS, DFM, DFR etc. is a plus
- Medical devices, diagnostics, laboratory testing product experience or similar products is preferred.
- Must be self-motivated, have good interpersonal skills, capable of analyzing and solving complex problems through innovative thought and experience.
