Your Role at Baxter:

Baxter’s Front Line Care (FLC) business unit products enable earlier diagnostics, Reduce patient risks and expand therapies to better help patients and physicians to manage chronic or acute diseases. The portfolio includes products for respiratory health, cardiology, intelligent diagnostics and patient monitoring. 

As the Associate Director R&D for Digital Software, you will be responsible for setting the vision, strategy, road map and creation of a digital SW development team in line with the vision of the FLC team in Bangalore (BRD).

An Associate Director, Software will be accountable and responsible for the development of products and providing creative solutions associated with the design, development, and sustaining engineering for our new and existing product portfolio. The successful candidate will possess solid “hands-on” technical abilities, an excitement and energy for product development, and a passion for their work and the impact it has on meeting the needs of patients.

You and your team will work with global cross functional teams located across the globe. Your team, as it grows in capability, will be expected to take on growing responsibilities for legacy products, peripherals, and strategic New Product Development activities.

This position is based out of Bangalore and reporting to the R&D Director of Front Line Care business.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Functional management of team – Setting vision and direction for the team, hiring, competency building, training, setting SMART goals, providing regular feedback, performance management, compensation management, development planning, career coaching, budget planning & tracking, championing Baxter values and creating an inclusive and engaging team environment.
  • Directly responsible for providing Software lead representation on project teams for Respiratory projects working closely with Design Assurance, Project Management, Systems Engineering and V&V groups.
  • Directly responsible for identifying necessary resources and building appropriate teams in BRD to support FLC product investigations and projects.
  • Accountable for the Software roadmap and delivery for the product lines.
  • Identify strategies, tools, and methodologies to improve software development practices across FLC, working with global teams.
  • Working with FLC R&D leaders to help develop and execute strategic plans to deliver key product launches on time to meet annual operating plan (AOP) goals. 
  • Empowered to dynamically align resources on your team to support product development timelines. Collaborate closely other product team leaders for key staffing and process decisions.
  • Expected to develop, document, and test in accordance with established processes, and stay in alignment with Baxter QMS.
  • Accountable and responsible to drive Quality Compliance for the entire team,
  • Establish good communication practices that align with global R&D and Cross functional sites in US and Asia.
  • Expected ability to travel up to 10% Internationally

What You’ll Bring:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in an Engineering discipline is required.  Must be able to interact on a technical level.
  • 18+ years’ experience in a software engineering role, with experience in enterprise level web/mobile/cloud software products. Any experience with embedded and desktop products is a definite plus.
  • At least 8 years of experience in managing Software product development teams involving Software Managers, Project Leads, Architects and Software developers and test engineers in a matrix global organization.
  • Strong proven experience with people management and building high performing teams.
  • Good understanding of SDLC process and prior experience in software development and/or testing.
  • Demonstrated success in owning/delivering software projects.
  • Understanding of Healthcare domain (regulations and standards) and familiarity and experience with IEC62304 standard for software life cycle is highly preferred.
  • Excellent project management skills (PMP / Agile certification is a plus).
  • Strong proven experience with people management and building high performing teams.
  • Proven coaching and mentoring skills with ability to motivate, inspire and get the best out of team.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills. Ability to effectively communicate in a clear, positive and professional manner to all levels from customers and peers to Directors/VPs
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Good organizational skills. Ability to effectively organize and prioritize tasks
