Your role at Baxter:

As a Buyer you are responsible for the buying, planning, and handling inventory activities, which fall within assigned commodity/product groups. This role maintains communication channels with suppliers, internal customers, and the procurement department. Will coordinate material orders, inventory levels, expedite/prioritize, release of materials, safety stock positions and disposition of materials through the MRP and warehouse system.

What you'll be doing:

  • Directly supports the procurement and disposition of materials in response to MRP and Manufacturing requirements for the facility.

  • Acquire materials in economic order quantities that increase value and minimize total cost (e.g. optimized inventory levels).

  • Assist in the annual standard costing process and provide price forecasts. Maintain competitive costing program to ensure a positive PPV.

  • Develop knowledge of procurement and associated materials management systems, as well as develop skills and knowledge in project management, negotiation and contract terms and conditions.

  • Establish and maintain effective communication with all levels within Baxter; ensure that procurement processes meet the requirements of Baxter and suppliers with Total Quality Management (TQM) in mind.

  • Support and back-up other buying positions as needed to develop a group/team effort and provide consultation to team members to ensure minimal business risks.

  • Investigate and review all material quality complaints and problems, both internal and external, analyze excess and obsolete material, and coordinate problem resolution.

  • Develop an in-depth knowledge of supplier’s technologies, manufacturing processes and purchasing strategies for assigned areas. Strong negotiation skills are required to communicate requirements to potential suppliers and to establish partnerships that are mutually helpful to both Baxter and suppliers.

  • Monitor changes to assigned commodities to alert procurement and the business to major price/availability fluctuations that will affect the business' cost or ability to conduct business operations.

  • Initiate projects that eliminate non-value-added activities, increase quality and service, and reduce costs.

  • Learn, understand, and apply rigorous quality standards, Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and Current Good Manufacturing Practices (cGMP).

What you'll bring:

  • Bachelor's degree, preferred.

  • Project management experience desirable.

  • Experience with inventory management systems desired.

  • Must be at least 18 years of age.

  • Computer literate. Software knowledge: Microsoft Office Suite, CMMS related software.

  • Good presentation and communication skills.

We understand compensation is an important factor as you consider the next step in your career. At Baxter, we are committed to equitable pay for all employees, and we strive to be more transparent with our pay practices. The estimated base salary for this position is $72,000 - $99,000 annually. The estimated range is meant to reflect an anticipated salary range for the position. We may pay more or less than of the anticipated range based upon market data and other factors, all of which are subject to change. Individual pay is based on upon location, skills and expertise, experience, and other relevant factors. This position may also be eligible for discretionary bonuses.
