Your Role at Baxter:

Baxter’s Pharmaceuticals Segment delivers differentiated hospital pharmaceuticals in areas of pain, critical care, anti-infection, and oncology. This $2.2B segment includes Injectables & Anesthesia ($1.3B) and Drug Compounding ($.9B) businesses; and reporting 6% annual growth in 2023.  Many products are cold storage controlled including frozen.

This role sits on the Commercial Leadership Team and is a Commercial role.  In the Commercial Operation Excellence, Pharmaceuticals role, you will be responsible for ensuring that the Pharmaceutical US and Cananda (UCAN) supply network is positioned to be a source of competitive advantage, capable of delivering long-term performance needed by its businesses.  You will lead the Division’s supply and manufacturing strategic planning processes / projects, including the annual strategy review, in-depth review of key strategic issues and investment prioritization. You will ensure the best use of organization resources in defining and planning goals, objectives and programs to achieve the strategic plan and to achieve growth and profitability.

What You’ll Be Doing:

•          Provides input into the company's strategic plans and improvement strategies

•          Conducts long range capacity planning to identify bottlenecks and develop mitigating strategies

•          UCAN liaison that develops strategic manufacturing strategies consistent with the division to ensure ability to deliver the planned business results on key programs and priorities

•          Supports the annual strategic planning activities for the function ensuring corporate guidelines and schedules are met

•          Leads regional manufacturing networks in their environmental/ business assessments and development/review of their long-term strategies

•          In partnership with Baxter’s External Contract Manufacturing (ECM) team, helps provide oversight of External Contract Manufacturers to ensure near & long-term supply continuity and capacity

•          In partnership with Baxter’s Fulfillment team, helps ensure optimal distribution of products to ensure the right product is delivered to the right place at the right time

•          Supports the review and prioritization of UCAN Pharmaceuticals manufacturing and supply investments, and fulfills requirements of the Integrated Supply Chain (ISC) Manufacturing Council (comprised of the company's senior manufacturing leaders)

•          Develop strategies to optimize the manufacturing network, improving cost and quality

•          Conduct in-source / out-source assessments and define manufacturing plan for new product launches as well as the expansion or renewal of capacity for existing products

•          Supports business development activities by conducting pre-close due diligence on Pharmaceutical’s operations

•          Coaches and develops staff as well as dotted line reports (typically operations professionals from plants and global functions) when working on continuous improvement projects

•          Expected travel 50%

Your Team:

In the Commercial Operation Excellence, Pharmaceutical role, you will report directly to the GM, Pharmaceutical division and is a member of the UCAN Commercial Leadership team.  Furthermore, you will be an individual contributor (no direct reports) working collaboratively and influence across the pharma organization.

The role is located at our global corporate headquarters in the greater Chicago, IL area in the northern suburb of Deerfield. What You’ll Bring:

•          Bachelor’s degree required, Master’s degree in Business, Industrial Engineering, Operations Research or similar preferred

•          Six Sigma, Lean, Continuous Improvement practitioner

•          Experience with manufacturing and external contract manufacturing (ECM) including managing or influencing teams

•          Experience in large scale, pharmaceutical, biologics or medical device manufacturing network; refrigerated, frozen or temperature controlled (ex: foods) or similar also considered

•          In-depth operations and ECM knowledge required to drive development strategies to improve supply chain

•          Knowledge of healthcare marketplace and an understanding of competitive dynamics ideal

•          Understanding of the key drivers of manufacturing performance and how manufacturing capabilities can be used to derive competitive advantage in a healthcare setting

•          Familiarity with Pharmaceutical operations, exposure to manufacture of sterile products a plus

•          Problem solving skills, ability to deal with complex and ambiguous business problems and develop concrete manufacturing and business recommendations

•          Analytic, data driven, utilization of supply chain tools, quantitative and qualitative assessment skills, familiarity with financial modeling including analyzing end customer demand

•          Critical thinking skills, ability to constructively challenge ideas and assumptions

•          Executive leadership and influencing skills, ability to successfully drive teams to complete projects in a highly matrixed, consensus-driven organization

•          Exceptional oral/written communication and presentation skills required as role will interface with key Baxter Executives.

We understand compensation is an important factor as you consider the next step in your career. At Baxter, we are committed to equitable pay for all our employees, and we strive to be more transparent with our pay practices. The estimated base salary for this position is $184,000- $253,000 annually. The estimated range is meant to reflect an anticipated salary range for the position. We may pay more or less than the anticipated range based upon market data and other factors, all of which are subject to change. Individual pay is based upon location, skills and expertise, experience, and other relevant factors. This position may also be eligible for discretionary bonuses, and/or long-term incentive.
