  • Position Summary

    The position is responsible for being procurement’s primary point of contact for Pharmaceutical CMOs - New Product Introduction projects and initiatives. This position has a major impact on the company’s ability to successfully launch new products on time, within budget as well as meet quality, cost and delivery objectives. Additionally, this position will continuously and proactively evaluate new CMO suppliers and their pipeline in order to submit ideas to R&D, marketing, and category management to maintain a funnel of manufacturing opportunities to support the organizational goals. Reporting to the Director, Procurement Manager is a source of knowledge for category / products and suppliers related to CMOs, and will lead the category strategy development and implementation, including cost improvement/reductions. Other responsibilities include optimizing supplier relationships while maximizing value and ensuring uninterrupted product flow.

    Job Responsibilities

  • Pharma’s primary procurement point of contact for NPI CMOs and will contribute as the subject matter expert for CMO sourcing, project planning and execution.
  • Develop and/or maintain an in-depth global market knowledge of Pharma related potential CMOs, commodities/ supplier technologies, manufacturing processes, and related industries: including cost drivers, global execution, to leverage across multiple manufacturing locations, and to understand specific supply issues.
  • Execute CMO procurement activities to support on time product launches, delivering quality product, while achieving cost targets to algin with successful and profitable market launches
  • Actively manage and support the NPI (New Product Introduction) CMO projects pipeline for the Pharma GBU at Baxter - procurement and strategic sourcing of pharma CMOs or the entire project cycle -feasibility, development, tech transfer through submission and launch.
  • Successful Category Management including Sourcing Strategy, Supplier Selection Board/selection, Supplier relationship management, Supplier Negotiation, Supply Agreement, Cost Optimization, Term Sheet, CDAs etc.
  • Work closely with the Business Development, strategy and Portfolio team for products acquired through BD deals.
  • Assist in development and implementation of global category strategies related CMOs support the portfolio based on knowledge of global markets, suppliers and competitive landscape
  • Create cost saving opportunities through competitive bidding, negotiations to achieve / exceed savings targets and deliver on-time reporting
  • Negotiate price, contract terms and conditions and draft contracts where necessary.
  • Establish service levels and jointly work with relevant stakeholders to measure and monitor supplier’s performance.  Maintain and review supplier performance to ensure conformance to supplier management goals (cost, quality, service, delivery) Ensure timely resolution of all disputes.
  • Develop and lead sourcing strategies for categories and NPI projects and deliver effective Requests for Proposals (RFP), as necessary.
  • Provide guidance to R&D (technical and commercial) Team regarding new industry trends and provide market intelligence.
  • Lead the risk management and supply continuity programs for the category and New Product launch as applicable.
    • Work with critical suppliers to improve current performance and develop new opportunities.
    • Support Tech Transfer activities critical to successful launch of products
    • Lead cross functional teams to successfully drive complex sourcing projects or MIPs, working with ECM and API NPI colleagues
    • Apply appropriate competitive cost and process benchmarks, financial analysis and risk management techniques to solve complex issues.
    • Develop strong, ethical relationships with world class suppliers and ensure that activities surrounding dealing with suppliers are conducted under the auspices of good business practices and consistent with the Baxter Code of Ethics.
    • Other duties as assigned
  • Attend conferences, identify, screen, and visit potential new suppliers to generate new product ideas
  •    Qualifications - Knowledge, Skill and Abilities

  • 7-10 years experience in Pharma Procurement, Project Management and/or Chemical Engineering.
  • In-depth knowledge of CMO/API/Pharma product category and supplier landscape
  • At least 3 years experience of procurement within the Contract manufacturing space, preferably in a multi-national company within the pharmaceutical industry. A good knowledge of the pharmaceutical industry, and of the GMP regulations governing it
  • Experience managing drug and biologic development projects.
  • Bachelor's Degree required; MBA desirable.
  • Procurement, Purchasing or Supply Chain certification desirable.
  • Experience in Microsoft Office products such as Excel, PowerPoint, Word, and SharePoint.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills, pro-active personality.
  • Strong business process and strategic thinking.
  • Sound financial skills.
  • Ability to communicate effectively and engage senior management of current and potential suppliers.
  • Ability to communicate in a professional way with internal stakeholders (senior management) to ensure the necessary buy-in for the sourcing/savings projects.
  • Ability to engage and support key stakeholders throughout the PSM process.
  • Good oral, written communications and presentation skills.
  •  An entrepreneurial personality with a strong negotiation skills coupled with a commercial minds. First-rate analytical and problem-solving skills, with flexibility to devise alternative solutions to complex problems
  • Knowledge of six sigma / black belt methodologies is desirable.
  • Multi-cultural knowledge
  • English language speaking – knowledge of any other European / Asian languages is an asset.
