Baxter’s High School STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Math) Intern Program is a 10-week paid summer internship program designed to give STEM-focused high school students the opportunity to explore the exciting world of Baxter’s science and engineering teams. 
 
The student will work in one of Baxter’s science or engineering teams, as assigned based on skill matching.  The student will assist scientists and engineers in performing product support and/or new product development activities, such as root cause investigations, design change implementation, prototype fabrication and laboratory testing and analysis.
 
This opportunity will allow the student to gain hands-on experience with different aspects of development and support of healthcare products in a global medical device corporation.  In addition, the student will receive mentoring from his/her manager.  The experience and mentoring will complement the student’s studies to prepare him/her for a successful transition to higher education in a STEM-based field. 
Training that will be provided includes:
  • “On the job” training specific to duties and responsibilities
  • In-depth, technical product knowledge
  • Baxter processes and policies
Students who excel in the program will be considered for Baxter’s science and engineering college internships and co-ops.
 
The application deadline is April 20, 2018. 
 
Program Details:
  • Start Date: June 4, 2018
  • End Date: August 10, 2018
  • Location: The intern will be located in Baxter’s Round Lake, IL, Technology Park (25212 W IL RT 120, Round Lake, IL).
    • Occasional travel to Baxter’s Deerfield, IL, headquarters (1 Baxter Parkway, Deerfield, IL) may be necessary.
  • Salary: The internship is paid.  Pay level will be determined by the grade level of the intern. 

Qualifications

  • You must be 16 years of age on or before June 4, 2018.
  • You must be a high school student enrolled a STEM-based curriculum program (for example: Project Lead the Way).  NOTE: Enrollment in standard science and math courses alone does NOT qualify you (for example: Chemistry, Biology, AP Calculus, Physics).
  • You must have reliable transportation to and from Baxter’s Round Lake Technology Park (25212 W IL RT 120, Round Lake, IL).
  • You plan to enroll in a STEM-based curriculum in the fall following the internship (i.e. you are either continuing in your high school’s STEM-based curriculum, or you plan to enroll in college and study in a STEM field).
  • Strong academic performance
  • Involvement in extracurricular activities is desired
  • You must submit a resume and essay by the application deadline of April 20, 2018.
    • The topic of the essay is “Why do you want to be a part of Baxter’s High School STEM internship this summer?”.
