The MRO Buyer/Coordinator assumes the responsibility of ensuring parts used by maintenance are purchased, controlled, replenished and issued while maintaining accuracy of the Maintenance, Repair, Operations inventory system. In addition to the maintenance of the stock room, the incumbent will provide clerical support and have data entry duties. Liaise with vendors who handle product lines of interest to maintenance.

Major Responsibilities / Activities

MRO Purchasing / Inventory control:

·         Source vendors for best price on replacement parts, obtain written quotes. Source alternative suppliers to improve price, quality or service.

·         Utilize best practices in purchasing to negotiate terms & conditions of sale

·         Ensure purchase orders are submitted for all purchases with correct pricing and delivery dates

·         Plan, organize and implement an orderly and effective parts system, utilizing optimum layout, frequent part usage and space etc.

·         Responsible for issuing materials, parts and tools. Matching inventory issuing to work orders to maintain accurate repair costs.

·         Conduct follow up on outstanding PO’s for expected delivery.

·         Ensure repair parts rack is organized and repair broken [MC1] parts when they arrive and return to stores after repairs

Clerical:

·         Receive and check all incoming parts, materials and hand tools. Match receipts with purchase orders and put away in allocated locations. Verify actual receivable to the PO.

·         Establish inventory controls to ensure parts are checked out from the part storage room properly and consistently.

·         Conduct storeroom spot checks (cycle counting for empty bins including an annual cycle count of all stores inventory).

·         Package and return incorrect parts shipped in error.

·         File, TPM’s , PMs and Work orders.

·         Ensure work area and stock rooms (upstairs and down) are maintained to 6S standards. (cleaning up cardboard and packing materials, ensuring maintenance shop is kept to 6S standards).

·         Coordinate and issue work orders for rebuilding repair stores inventory. Arrange and coordinate outside repair service when called upon. (i.e. Tow motor repairs, conveyor belt repairs etc.).

·         Manage the sign out sheets for upstairs and downstairs tool cribs. Monitor those who are not signing out parts on shift.

Data Entry:

·         Generate manual requisitions and PO’s for additional parts that are required for repairs but not in stores.

·         Using computerized system ensure proper release of maintenance parts from stock room to proper work center within plant.

·         Issue work orders for repairs when requested.

·         Complete JDE log sheets for maintenance staff and continuous improvement team members.

·         Enter/ update into JDE all manual log sheets ,PM’s sheets and Receiving PO’s.

Qualifications

Education Level

Required:

  • Post-secondary education in a technical field, supply chain or purchasing

Preferred:

  • PMAC accreditation or partial completion

 

Major Subjects / Specialties

Required

·         Mechanical, Electrical, other Technical

·         Computer – JDE experience preferred

Preferred:

·         Purchasing, negotiation, supply chain

Type of Experience

Required:

·         Mechanical, technical background or knowledge of machine shops and manufacturing operations.

·         Experience in inventory control and purchasing.

·         Ability to negotiate costing and delivery times with vendors

·         Strong verbal and written communication skills

·         Ability to read blueprints and parts manuals.

·         Intermediate knowledge in computer systems (JDE).

Required:

·          –5-8 yrs

Preferred:

·         8+ yrs

Additional Skills / Special Training / Technical Skills Required

Required:

  • Experience in MRO purchasing and inventory management procedures.

·         Flexibility in working hours to support the needs of the maintenance and productions teams

·         Coverage for production overtime Saturdays and winter and summer plant shutdown is mandatory

·         Ability to understand and communicate with technical personnel on all aspects of maintenance issues

·         Ability to interact with team members at all levels of the organization in a professional manner.

·         Ability to manage multiple commitments and competing priorities

·         Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of changing situations under stress.

·         Intermediate level proficiency with entire MS office Suite.

·         Intermediate level key boarding skills

·         Ability to lift reasonable weights to place parts onto shelves or into storage drawers

 

Preferred:

  • Project management experience
  • Previous experience in a computerized work order and preventative maintenance systems.
  • Knowledge of Lean Enterprise principles – ability to use lean concepts to define and meet inventory targets.
