Baxter Thetford have an exciting opportunity for a strong leader to join the team as a Utilities Manager. Reporting to the Head of Engineering you will support the facilities mission to manufacture and deliver life sustaining products. The key functions include: specification, operation, maintenance and repair of Critical Systems, utilities, and sterilisation. Duties and responsibilities

Management

  • Lead an engineering team with a variety of shift patterns and roles.
  • Lead a process to guarantee an effective hand over of information is in place, activities are prioritised correctly and with a sense of urgency.
  • Drive the continuous improvement of people and equipment / processes in this area of competence
  • Manage and drive the sites Lean Energy Program (LEP).
  • Ensure global targets are met and the sites energy usage is optimised and efficient at all times.
  • Manage the utilities equipment to provide reliable and available equipment to meet the sites production demands.
  • Lead the maintenance and improvement strategy for the sterilisation equipment.
  • Working closely with the production/operations team and the sterility assurance team to deliver improvements and maintenance

Maintenance

  • Support the development of predictive, preventive and reliability centered maintenance programs associated to plant critical and utility systems, energy programs and sterilization equipment

Training

  • Define training needs for maintenance (and operational personnel) related to the maintenance and operation of critical systems and equipment.
  • Develop and manage a skills matrix for the department to identify development needs.

Water treatment plant and Sterilization systems management

  • Maintain the water treatment plant systems in order to ensure the availability of a purified water.
  • Maintain the treatment plant systems such as, but not limited to: extraction, filtering, storage and physical & chemical treatment processes.
  • Inspect/service and repair components of the water treatment plant including water intakes, pipes, water storage vessels, physical & chemical treatment equipment controls, circulation pumps, boilers, heat exchangers and valves.
  • Ensure an adequate supply of water for human consumption and firefighting activities.
  • Inspect the treatment plant systems on a daily basis to ensure effective operations.

Energy

  • Manage the site energy needs in an efficient manner.
  • Ensure correct and efficient operation of the site CHP plant.
  • Continually monitor and improve energy usage across site through energy reduction, energy management and energy efficient programs.
  • Ensure the site energy needs are always meet in times of national emergency

Utilities

  • Operate, troubleshoot, and manage both routine and emergency services on a variety of production critical utilities equipment systems such as, but not limited to: chillers, cooling towers, air compressors, air driers, effluent, boilers, Responsible for the on-site management of sub-contractors and vendors, ensuring that all work performed is in accordance with established practices and procedures.
  • Industrial legionella management. Ensure systems are compliant and maintained correctly.

Sterilisation

  • Ensure sterilisation maintenance is completed with the focus on predictive and preventative maintenance schemes.
  • Drive improvement and reliability of the sterilsiation equipment and ensure minimal impact to operations.

Experience required

  • Degree in engineering or equivalent
  • At least 5 years’ experience in an engineering role
  • Able to lead a team and motivate others
  • Strong knowledge of utilities
