Baxter Thetford have an opportunity for a strong EHS and Continuous Improvement supervisor to join our rapidly growing Compounding Unit.  With a strong emphasis on visible Leadership, accountability and building a team ethos, this role is ideal for anyone looking to make an impact on the safety and efficiency of a thriving business.

You will be working closely and under the guidance of the Thetford Unit Manager, responsible for leading a small team of technical support personnel responsible for continues improvements and EHS on site. You will be part of SLT and will be responsible for drive CI strategy and initiatives within the two aseptic compounding areas to maximize operational efficiency and eliminating or reducing waste and/or non-value adding activities. This will be primarily in the manufacturing areas with a view to broaden the scope whilst ensuring the site is aligned with execution of the  corporate EHS strategy. With focus on ensuring EHS and quality measures are established and maintained you are responsible for ensuring the team is  troubleshooting within preparation for manufacturing, filling, visual inspection and packaging processes.

You will have a positive attitude to actively use problem solving and lean manufacturing techniques to identify the true root cause if deviation incidence occurs during a manufacturing process or in relation to an EHS incident is critical to delivering success in this role.

Role Responsibilities

  • Through lean manufacturing principals, high shop floor presence and a high energy approach, actively lead the team to deliver manufacturing efficiency increase of 10% year on year, VIP savings of 25% for the unit year on year.

  • Lead the teams to ensure compliance to the UK Compounding EHS Management system with a focus development and sustainment of a strong Safety culture, awareness of values and expectations to maintain involvement and compliance with an expectation of achieving 0 major audit observations.

  • Perform trend analysis and develop corrective actions to support and improve operational performance.

  • Perform trend analysis and develop corrective actions to support and improve EHS performance in relation to achievement of a zero harm workplace by supporting completion of event analysis to identify root causes to prevent recurrence of incidents.

  • Collaborate with manufacturing area, Engineering, QA, suppliers etc. as appropriate, and becoming a key liaison driving cross functional continues improvement initiatives within the compounding unit.

  • Understand EHS and emergency procedures and comply with safe systems of work.

  • Work with the UK EHS team to ensure consistent compliance to the EHS system requirements and expectations and identification of continuous improvements

  • Ensure prompt reporting and investigation of all accidents, EHS observations and breaches of rules.

  • Responsible for inspiring and setting direction to the area to meet expectations and company targets for EHS, output, improvements, waste reduction etc.

  • Responsible for Supporting implementation and maintenance of the facilities EHS Management system.

  • Communicate received legislation and Baxter requirement updates and supporting the area EHS responsible to complete monthly reports and metrics

  • Responsible for the EHS Risk assessment program according to the UK Compounding hazard identification program to ensure assessments are identified, recorded, shared with teams with a view of identification of improvement of controls to eliminate/reduce risks

  • Responsible for addressing issues that might affect safety, compliance, output, business ethics etc.

  • Ensure timely completion of relevant deviation and complaint investigations to identify true root cause.

  • Set objectives for and appraise the performance of individual team members to ensure individuals are focused on activities that will support the Thetford objectives and ensure customer satisfaction

  • Proactively look for and drive continuous improvement, influence decisions and deliver the results whilst ensuring an appropriate level of compliance.

  • Combine a highly competitive approach with strong teamwork and flexibility, sharing best practice and ideas

  • Work closely with Unit Manager, Supply Chain, Engineering, Quality, procurement and cross functional compounding team to ensure agreement and execution of agreed critical success factors in the Unit.

  • Responsible for competence development within team

  • Responsible for implementation and use of daily boards for tracking performance with mechanisms in place to address challenges in output.


  • Degree in Engineering (Process, industrial, chemical), life science or equivalent

  • Proactive logical approach to problem solving utilizing lean manufacturing techniques

  • Green/black belt qualifications required and min 5 years’ experience within Practical Process Improvement

  • IOSH managing safely or above qualification, preferably NEBOSH general certificate.

  • Working knowledge of the principles and guidelines for GMP as set out in the ‘Orange Guide’

  • Experience of setting, managing and delivering “Lean Workshops” with large stakeholder groups to ensure changes are implemented seamlessly across functions and teams within the timelines identified.

  • Experience in managing multiple projects in parallel delivering on cost, time and quality repeatedly

  • Experience in lean/removal of non-value add from documentation and manufacturing processes

  • Ability to make sound risk-based decisions

  • Excellent verbal and formal communication skills, together with critical reasoning skills.

  • Experience within Risk Assessment, and root-cause analysis.
