Job Description

Team Member Name:    Research Scientist II

Department: Solution Pharm Tech Lead China Suzhou RnD

Summary

  • Provide pharmaceutical technical leadership for solution and pharma new product development, on-the market products support and innovation;
  • Conduct research or design strategies to achieve the technical vision for a new or improved product/process/method or to prove a new theory, applying a solid understanding of theories/practices including those from other disciplines outside the primary area of expertise.
  • Familiar with cGMPs, ICH guidelines and other regulatory framework for drug/solution development.
  • Strong domain knowledge of sterile dosage form design including formulation development, container interactions etc.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Provide pharmaceutical development technical leadership and formulation development expertise.
  • Develop product and process specifications; provide leadership through the life cycle management process; develop CMC sections of regulatory submissions.
  • Support technical analysis for Business Development opportunities; design and lead Business Development assessments.
  • Create innovative products/ processes/methods through novel combinations of expertise within the organization.
  • Independently plan, execute and manage projects/programs that both span multiple disciplines and utilize established methods, techniques or approaches.
  • Reach conclusions based on research analysis and incorporate recommendations into larger projects. Apply advanced techniques to solving difficult problems.
  • Approve technical feasibility of complex design concepts within area of expertise; advise management regarding appropriate action.
  • Present research results at external conferences, publish articles in journals and/or file patents.
  • May provide training and supervision to junior members within the discipline. Routinely provide advice and assistance to team members regarding unique problems.
  • In addition to having an in-depth knowledge and understanding of GxP and related regulations and guidance, is able to provide expert insights into such regulations so as to facilitate efficient product registration, and/or is an active participant in the generation, review, adoption and interpretation of such regulations.

Qualifications

  • Must possess working knowledge of sterile dosage formulation development.
  • Knowledge of base IV, Nutrition and/or Renal therapies/products and pharma is a plus.
  • Must be able to carry out strategy and vision set by upper management and communicate the vision to junior associates.
  • Must possess strong ability to negotiate for resources and influence others internally and externally.
  • Must be able to challenge the status quo.
  • Ability to make routine and some less routine decisions independently.
  • Can effectively communicate with internal and external customers.
  • Demonstrates flexibility and the ability to shift gears between projects comfortably.
  • Can comfortably handle risk and uncertainty; can decide and act without having the total picture.

  • Excellent technical protocol & report writing skills as well as technical presentations.
  • Excellent written and oral English skills.

Education and/or Experience

  • Bachelor's degree in Pharmaceutical Sciences, Chemistry or Chemical Engineering or related with at least 15 years of relevant experience, MS with at least 10 years, or PhD with at least 5 years of relevant experience.
  • QSR research experience is essential and GMP experience useful.
  • Lab experience includes research in GMP/QSR environment, leadership of technical teams, and project management experience is desirable.
