Job Overview:

  • As a Associate Director / Sr Manager of Device Engineering within Renal business, expected to create and manage a department vision that aligns with the organization's vision or strategic plan
  • He/ She will be leading a team of engineers of varied skills (Compliance/Hardware/Systems Engineers, Test Engineers and System Technical Leads) providing technical expertise and guidance along with accountability of reviewing and approving complex design concepts of new or existing products
  • He/ She will utilize solid understanding of theories and practices of a variety of disciplines to manage complex projects or programs within boundaries of quality, time and budget. Acknowledged outside of business unit or division for input on programs of some magnitude. Exhibits creativity and innovation in completing divisional and cross-functional/business unit responsibilities
  • The successful candidate will possess solid “hands-on” technical abilities, an excitement and energy for product development, and a passion for their work and the impact it has on meeting the needs of patients

Responsibilities:

  • Effectively communicate and realize vision and strategy for the organization that aligns with the business and patient needs
  • Ability to lead functional and technical staff in the group that ensures clear accountability and operational excellence
  • Ensures that succession planning and talent pipeline is in place for technical and functional leadership for the assigned function
  • Work effectively with cross functional teams including quality, program management, manufacturing, regulatory, medical, and clinical to support China local device products development and/or imported device products local registration
  • Lead the development and integration of project strategies which may cross several disciplines; evaluate alternatives against agreed criteria. With team, select strategies and appropriate level of risk and understanding full range of implications across the system
  • Be the R&D voice to the China Commercial/Service teams to review, evaluate and influence the commercial/service needs and bring alignment with the product core teams
  • Collaborate in establishing processes for effective resource management from planning through execution in close collaboration with program management
  • Foster an environment where mentoring, coaching, career growth and progression, and employee development are critical focus areas
  • Support the creation of a culture and environment that attracts, develops, retains, and grows diverse and top talent aligned with organizational strategy
  • Actively communicate and advocate team’s capabilities and accomplishments
  • Collaborate across multiple locations to leverage talent and processes effectively
  • Responsible for development of state-of-the-art industry expertise and technical competencies as well as effective deployment throughout a multi-site organization
  • Ensure effective performance management
  • As China RD site leadership team core member, sponsor for site initiatives to develop innovation culture

Qualifications:

  • Experienced in the development of highly complex medical devices requiring successful integration of electrical and mechanical constituents
  • Highly proficient in state-of-the-art engineering methods and principles
  • Self-motivated with good interpersonal skills
  • Capable of analyzing and solving complex problems through innovative thought and experience. Ability to design and influence outside of immediate scope of responsibility
  • Deep domain knowledge in electromechanical medical devices
  • Understanding of and adherence to NMPA, FDA, ISO and IEC design control procedures, regulations, and standards
  • Active engagement with China Business Team and SI team, to support local business opportunities screening and exploratory
  • Active engagement with cross GBU RD (Renal/Acute/MedDel) team, to continuously support GBU projects

Education & Experience:

  • Bachelors with at least 10 years’ experience, Masters with at least 8 years of experience, or Ph.D. with at least 5 years’ experience
  • The degree should be in Electrical / Electronics / Mechanical Engineering, Software Engineering or Computer Science; or other relevant engineering background is required
  • Previous supervisory experience and demonstrated competency in providing leadership and coaching to direct reports
  • Prior experience in dialysis is a plus
  • Prior experience in driving Digital solutions is a plus
