Occupational Health Professional or EHSS subject matter expert who plans, executes and occasionally direct projects and programs where the complexity requires advanced knowledge and scientific technical specialization designed to ensure the attainment of the company’s goals relative to Occupational Health and /or EHSS outcomes.Act as team leader or mentor of work teams consisting of junior staff and lead multi-functional teams to address and provide solutions for complex occupational health and /or EHSS issues. Is responsible for the development, implementation, and administration of all applicable Occupational Health and industrial hygiene support programs and company policies.  To strategically plan for and assist in compliance with all federal, state and local EHS regulations. Act as primary liaison with external regulatory agencies. Communicate Baxter’s Global Occupational Health Policies to the regional facilities. Responsibilities may involve taking a lead role in some select or specialized EHS programs and/or activities.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Focus is generally on multiple facilities globally. Shares technical knowledge broadly where needed, often externally. Works with other similar experts around the company
  • Helps develop sound science / strong technical solutions where the scope of the problems are not well defined
  • May provide scientific / technical insight to support external activities via trade organizations, Government Affairs, etc.
  • May participates in key trade organizations
  • Conducts or reviews research that helps to better manage complex Occupational Health and / or EHSS risks and if applicable, uses to influence the external environment
  • May present scientific / technical information at professional conferences
  • Applies state-of-the-art scientific / technical knowledge to projects
  • May originate/design Occupational Health and / or EHSS investigations and studies
  • Creates scientific / technical reports, manuscripts, and other documents
  • Recommends different approaches to improve Occupational Health and / or EHSS; can communicate technical positions in layman’s terms
  • Proactively follows scientific / technical developments and trends
  • Uses influence to advance Occupational Health and /or EHSS compliance/programs
  • May partner with NGO’s to collaborate on common goals and monitor trends
  • Utilizes specialized knowledge to contribute to Occupational Health and / or EHSS strategy development and deployment

  • Proven track record of interpersonal and leadership skills with ability to interface well with other departments, and lead effectively and efficiently in a team environment.

  • Strong professional writing skills and ability to prepare technical reports.Ability to clearly articulate information during regulatory inspections.
  • Ability to understand applicable regulatory guidelines.

  • Ability to respond to detailed inquiries and present information to groups and senior leaders.
  • Computer proficiency in Microsoft Office and ability to use enterprise software.
  • Ability to collect and analyze data and information to determine paths for process improvement and potential root cause

  • Demonstrated critical thinking and problem-solving skills.
  • Strong business acumen.
  • Possess a working knowledge of related disciplines/other functions including manufacturing and operations processes.
  • Subject matter expert in applicable Occupational Health and / or EHS&S regulations.
  • Professional certifications preferred.
  • Continuous improvement focus and track record.

Education and/or Experience:

Include the education and experience that is necessary to perform the job satisfactorily.

  • RN / COHN or B.S. Degree in Environmental, Safety, Engineering or related field required;
  • M.S. Degree in Environmental or Safety Engineering or Technology preferred Minimum of 10 years of related experience
