Summary

Assumes an electrical technician lead role related to the electrical assembly of automation equipment projects. Builds, installs, operates, maintains, repairs, and modifies electrical wiring/systems for automated manufacturing equipment. Interfaces with internal designers, engineering, plant personnel and outside electrical vendors. Assists in de-bug and acceptance testing relating to electrical control of equipment. Provides guidance and training to plant personnel in establishing operation, maintenance, and best practices. Analyzes electrical equipment failures to determine root cause and recommends corrective action. May recommend electrical design changes to improve equipment efficiency and/or reduce cost of operation.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Adheres to all environmental, health and safety SOPs, equipment, policies and procedures.
  • Completes electrical assembly, de bug, installation and support service within time requirements established by management.
  • Knowledge of safe operation and use of shop floor metal fabrication equipment including saws, grinders, punches, drill presses and polishing equipment to alter electrical panels, wire ways or enclosures.
  • Perform panel layouts based on experience and best practices per electrical code.
  • Advanced working knowledge wiring and troubleshooting electrical systems. Knowledge of automation specific electric and pneumatic solenoids, PLCs, HMIs, VFDs, vision, robotics and servo controls/motors.
  • Able to create sketches and redlines of changes on the shop floor to communicate electrical design alterations to engineering. Provide design feedback in design reviewand project close-out meetings
  • Advanced knowledge of electrical meters to measure electrical voltage, current, and resistance to perform system checks, electrical loads and troubleshoot electrical issues.
  • Communicate effectively on a technical level with management, engineering, plant personnel and outside technical resource and support services.
  • As required, travel to plant locations, both foreign and domestic to install or service equipment. Must be able to travel extensively and independently if required.
  • Able to perform other duties as assigned or required and work overtime as required.

Qualifications

  • Able to route and terminate electrical wiring for automation. Advanced knowledge of high and low voltage electric circuits specific to automation machinery.
  • Good communication ability and basic computer skills required.
  • Solid math aptitude including addition, subtraction, multiplication, division, and fractions are required.
  • Able to read and interpret 2D/3D CAD drawings/images for wiring, assembly and pneumatic control systems.
  • Able to wire low and high voltage circuits from power distribution through logic I/O. Familiar with various machine communication architectures. Able to perform your own circuit testing and pre-checks before placing machine under power and brining individual circuits online.
  • Skilled using hand and power tools to perform work.
  • Must be able to lift 50 lbs, carry and climb 10 ft. ladders, stand and work for two hours minimum intervals, and be able to work in tightspaces.
  • Use of hands and fingers to manipulate office equipment or tooling is required.
  • Ability to exercise independent judgment and draw accurate conclusions based on available information.

Background and /or Experience:

  • High School diploma (or equivalent) with electrical technical training or a recognized journeyman apprenticeship

or

  • 5+ years of experience in the electrical controls wiring orautomation industry.
