Due to the nature of this position, a very high degree of initiative, teamwork and communication are required.  Candidate will provide engineering support to manufacturing areas, including optimizing system performance, writing engineering, and validation documents.  Will analyze processes and suggest improvement projects and take projects from feasibility and concept development through testing, implementation, operational start up and training.  Responsible for optimizing manufacturing processes and manufacturing equipment, identifying process improvements and resolving engineering problems using lean manufacturing techniques and other problem solving tools.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities.  This section contains a list of five to eight primary responsibilities of the work.  The incumbent will perform other duties as assigned.

  • Quality Engineering support for automated manufacturing process. Closely partner with production, engineering, and maintenance for process trouble shooting, cause investigation, and implementation of process improvements.
  • Performs equipment change control and validation protocols to support continued process improvements.
  • Apply sound engineering practices and problem-solving methodology (e.g. Lean & Six Sigma) to arrive at robust and practical solutions in an expedited manner for nonconformances, customer complaints, and/or manufacturing equipment malfunction.
  • Analysis of equipment performance and product quality trend data and presents results.
  • Investigates supplier related nonconformances. Interfaces directly with suppliers to ensure implementation of robust investigations and corrective actions in a timely manner.
  • Create and/or review supporting documentation to ensure project documentation of the highest quality and compliance level, procedures, work instructions, meeting minutes and project plans.
  • Works with manufacturing and other functional groups on manufacturing regulatory compliance issues.
  • Writes, executes, and reports on validation activities.  Coordinates validation issues specific to the product design.  Writes and/or executes qualification protocols for various pieces of equipment.
  • Designs and performs routine testing, project experiments, analysis of data and reports results.
  • Develops manufacturing process flowcharts, including defining people and material flow issues.
  • Maintains confidential information as such.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Physical Requirements:  Physical requirements for a position will vary.  These must be reviewed with the supervisor and should be attached here.

  • Duties may require overtime work, including nights and weekends.
  • Projects may require occasional travel no more than 10%.
  • Use of hands and fingers to manipulate office equipment is required.
  • Position requires remaining stationary as well as standing and walking for extended periods of time. 
  • Requires standing, walking, lifting up to 25 lbs., bending, pulling, pushing, and climbing stairs.
  • Normal visual acuity and the ability to distinguish color are necessary.

QualificationsTo perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily.  List knowledge, skills, and/or abilities required. 

  • Understanding of engineering principles in various engineering disciplines related to medical device manufacturing.
  • Basic understanding of manufacturing protocols, statistical tools and methodology, and continuous improvement techniques.
  • Demonstrated ability to work in a team environment.
  • Demonstrated initiative and sound judgment.
  • Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing.
  • Ability to prioritize and execute multiple projects.
  • Ability to perform problem solving and recommend solutions in assigned area.
  • Proficient computer skills including familiarity with word processing programs, spreadsheets, and graphics.
  • Desire to continually learn to keep up with changing technology.
  • Ability to interpret and adapt internal guidelines.
  • Exude a passion for new technology development.

Education and/or Experience.  Include the education and/or experience that is necessary to perform the job satisfactorily.

  • Bachelor of Science degree or above in an Engineering field (preferred: Biological Engineering, Chemical Engineering or Mechanical Engineering).
  • 3-5 years related experience.
