Works in a highly specialized, technical, and fully automated production unit, setting priorities in order to achieve maximum manufacturing efficiency by the effective organization of team members. Controls area of responsibility to achieve end result that supports the broader functional goals. Develop plans and efficiency improvement strategies that integrate with plans and strategies in other areas within the broader function.  The successful candidate will assist the shift leader in supervising spinning manufacturing and be held responsible for proper training and performance evaluation of production unit 2 personnel.  Will on a daily basis analyze the status of the manufacturing unit and organize his/her team to meet department goals as well as propose, support, participate and lead improvement projects together with the production unit lead.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Provide subject matter expertise to ensure continuous operations of fiber manufacturing unit.

  • Leads the team in identifying problems, analyzing causes, and selecting appropriate solutions.

  • Leads technical improvement, functional, and focused projects within the fiber manufacturing unit.

  • Ensures that the fiber manufacturing process is in accordance with Baxter Quality Management System as regulated by the FDA.

  • Works with internal and/or external resources to resolve problems of medium to high complexity.  May be the primary representative of operations or quality group on projects.

  • Performs and/or supports engineering studies on equipment to determine proper settings, control points, etc. including data gathering during start-up and test batches      

  • Expected to resolve own problems within area of responsibility, recommending and driving changes to operating policy when necessary.

  • Leads and/or participates in continuous improvement projects.

  • Supports investigations related to nonconformances and corrective actions within the fiber manufacturing unit.

  • Own and deliver technical, quality training modules to teams assesses the learning impact, and modifies content/delivery accordingly.

  • Ensures operation schedules within the area of responsibility are met through the appropriate use of resources, scheduling, and effective problem-solving.

  • Plans and execute preventive maintenance initiatives within the area of responsibility.

  • Supports Production Management in establishing and maintaining 6s, work instructions, and training materials in the area of responsibility.

  • Takes primary responsibility for establishing and maintaining a thoroughly supportive atmosphere throughout the group; encourages every member to participate.

  • Provides input to standard supervisory tasks including but not limited to hiring, coaching, and development conversations, disciplinary actions, conflict management, time and attendance, etc.

  • Acts as a substitute for all production unit leaders within the designated area to fill-in, in case of emergencies

  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Physical Requirements:

  • Must be able to work in an environment without daylight/windows.

  • Ascends/descends ladders to access machinery.

  • Lifting and/or moves up to 50 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move in excess of 50 pounds using lifting aids, techniques, or appropriate assistance.

  • Duties may require overtime work, including nights and weekends.

  • Use of hands and fingers to manipulate equipment is required.

  • Requires standing, walking, bending, pulling, pushing, climbing, and crawling.


  • Minimum 5 years experience in fiber manufacturing.

  • Requires a thorough understanding of technology, guidelines, and methods applicable to the area and the ability to determine the appropriate application.

  • Requires leadership skills.

  • Ability to work within a team environment.

  • Demonstrates a positive, proactive approach to problem solving and impediments and mentor others to understand and model this approach. Constructive and relentless in pursuit of solutions.

  • Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing.

  • Computer skills including statistical tools, word processing programs, spreadsheets, and graphics.

  • Demonstrated desire to continually learn in order to keep up with changing technology.

Education and/or Experience:

  • Minimum of 5 years of fiber manufacturing experience in an FDA regulated environment
