Summary
Under direction of supervisor, the Senior R&D Engineer will be contributing to the design and development of new products or the sustainability of existing product portfolio. In addition to providing technical support and service to these areas, the incumbent may also be entrusted with team leadership responsibilities.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Perform standard engineering assignments which are typically a significant portion of a larger project. Select sound techniques to solve design problems and make design recommendations under direction of supervisor. Assess results for application, validity and conformance to specifications. Recommend material and process specifications.
- Review direct reports quality of work (where applicable)
- Utilize engineering tools to solve straightforward problems (e.g., FMEA, Finite Element Analysis, Process Modelling, Design of Experiments, Mold Flow, SPC).
- Lead project teams and laboratory activities as needed to accomplish project objectives.
- Monitor and report project costs including capital and cross-functional expenses. Estimate cost affected by design and/or policy changes. With supervisor, recommend capital expenditure for existing or enhanced products or operating processes.
- Study and recommend techniques to improve existing products/processes.
- Investigate new sources for raw materials or processes.
- With supervisor, formulate and recommend engineering policies and technical work in accordance with project and business objectives.
- Coach and mentor direct reports (where applicable) to enhance their development within the R&D organisation.
- With supervisor, create/update development plans for direct reports (where applicable) in line with the R&D objectives.
Qualifications
- Bachelor of Engineering (Hons)
- Number of years of experience: 2– 3 years
- Field of expertise: Manufacturing, R&D, Project Management
