Steam Sterilization Engineer

JOB PORPUSE

Supervise the Sterilization area leading and performing technical duties at steam sterilization stations to achieve production schedule.  Coordinate resources at the steam sterilization operation to mass-produce intravenous IV bags solutions products.

Provide support to sterilization in one or more of the following: desktop, telecom, networks, servers, Information Systems and BMTS databases. This includes monitoring, testing, deploying and administration of these environments and restoring hardware

problems. Assure that all operations are in compliance with all Company standards.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • On a daily basis assign autoclave operators and steam sterilization technicians to different positions at Steam Sterilization Area to accomplish production activity as scheduled.
  • Responsible to startup sterilization steam vessels.
  • Maintains production standards at 100% minimum efficiency.
  • Administrator of Baxter Manufacturing Tracking System (BMTS) system hardware, software and user accounts.
  • Fix any hardware and software issues such as. computer repair, scanners repair and replace and any communication problem.
  • Documents network hardware and network system configuration, applications and licensing information and prepare reports as required by immediate supervisor.
  • Create Information System to monitor the Department's efficiency and accuracy.
  • Develops systems related procedures (such as: security, electronic signature, passwords, etc.).
  • Fill out, check and submit all sterilization records and record keeping reports.
  • Fill out all reports as requested (daily, weekly, monthly, annually).
  • Support the Department in manufacturing projects such as: Part Upgrades, Maintenance and Equipment function
  • Establish personal and shared network storage for data and application files.
  • Organizes and configure network resources,
  • Plans programs details to meet needs and interests of individual members.
  • Provides technical support for different skills needed to perform new processes .
  • Train new personnel on assigned areas.
  • Asses sterilization process in order to assure compliance with all internal and external standards.
  • Fill out all documentation at sterilized vessels assuring the compliance with FDA, cGMP's, cGDP's, JIB's, and other internal and external regulations.
  • Enforce and maintain cGMP's, cSOP's, Safety Rules, Quality Standards and OSHA practices at the Department.
  • Should be able to move the product at the vessels through the assigned areas, as requested.
  • Liaison between plant and Sterility Assurance Team.
  • Prepare area Standard Operating Procedure with personnel training.
  • Evaluates and approves specifications changes.
  • Analyze and completes exceptions documentation and implement corrective actions at the Sterilization area.
  • Develop technician and operators PMO's.
  • Perform revision with employees as required.
  • Perform documented periodic meeting with personnel.
  • Coordinates area operation requirements as per productions schedule requirements.
  • Fill out all the reports on a timely basis as requested by the immediate supervisor (eg. weekly reports, monthly reports, annually reports).
  • Supervise and approve the preventive / corrective maintenance work for all the sterilization equipment.
  • Responsible to keep all the vessels controls in operational conditions.
  • Occasionally should be able to work at any shift when its required.
  • Able to handle multiple tasks at the same time.
  • Must be able to keep the work area in the most clean and order conditions.
  • Team worked oriented.

QUALIFICATIONS 

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE

  • Bachelor Degree in Engineering one to three years of experience, Computer Literacy , PLC and Pneumatics knowledge is desired.  Person must be able to use computers to perform commons task such as; reading e-mail, MS Office and Human Machine Interfaces for equipment operations.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Manages several technicians and operators in the Sterilization Department.  Is responsible for the overall direction, coordination, and evaluation of this unit.  Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization's policies and applicable laws. Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring, and training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems.

LANGUAGE SKILLS

  • Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos.  Ability to write simple reports.  Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to supervisors, working teams, and other employees of the organization.  Must be bilingual (English / Spanish).

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS

  • Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.  Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and to draw and interpret different graph types.  Ability to calculate amounts such as  proportions, percentages, area, circumference, and volume, add, subtract, division, multiply.  Ability to apply concepts of basic algebra and geometry.

REASONING ABILITY

  • Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form.  Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.

CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS

  • cGMP's Training, JIB's Trainings, and other trainings, Forklift license, certificates or licenses that the immediate supervisor refers.

COMPANY REGULATORY COMPLIANCE

  • Observe and promote company security, industrial hygiene, cGMP's, procedures and other security measures already established by the company; should inform any violation.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS 

  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to use hands to finger, handle, or feel and reach with hands and arms.  The employee frequently is required to stand; walk; and stoop, kneel, or crawl.  The employee is occasionally required to sit, climb or balance, and talk or hear.  The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 25 to 50 pounds (with the proper safety equipment).  Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.

WORK ENVIRONMENT 

  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently exposed to wet and/or humid conditions, moving mechanical parts, fumes or airborne particles, toxic or caustic chemicals, extreme cold, extreme heat, risk of electrical shock, explosives, and vibration.  The employee is occasionally exposed to high, precarious places.  The noise level in the work environment is usually loud.

SAFETY EQUIPMENT and/or EQUIPMENT

  • The employee is required to use the appropriate Safety Equipment that Baxter requires to comply with all Safety and Security rules (in Regulated Areas), such as: safety glasses, safety shoes, uniform, special safety suit, gloves, etc. The incumbent must be use industrial and non industrial computerized equipment; manufacturing  equipment; telephone; office supply; computer; control panels; Heise; Dead Weight Tester; RTD; Voltage Standard; electric fork lift, small precision tools.
