The position of Medical Director, Medical Affairs (MA), Renal Care will work closely with Clinical Development, research and development, innovation and commercial teams. The person will report directly to the Senior Medical Director, global medical affairs Renal Care. The role will provide the highest level of expertise regarding renal care therapies and products. The medical director will represent medical affairs as the medical/clinical expert in renal care (general nephrology, chronic kidney disease end stage kidney disease, renal therapies, etc) both internally and externally. The incumbent will engage with business development and new product development teams to strategize and evaluate innovative solutions and products and oversee Medical input into product development, and global evidence strategy to support successful launch and product adoption. The incumbent will partner closely with the Global Clinical Development team and the Clinical Strategy Lead to ensure excellence in clinical trial planning and design to support evidence generation. The Medical Director, MA will assure the highest standard of practice, ethics, scholarship and knowledge to drive the goals of the team and the business.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Provide scientific knowledge and expertise to support the development of innovation in therapies and products in Renal care
Assist in development of global business strategy and support effective implementation
Provide medical expertise and knowledge to assure safety of Baxter products in development as well as those in the field
Collaborate with clinical development in developing clinical trials to support successful launch of therapies/products
Work closely with global product safety, quality, regulatory organizations in managing product issues
Provide medical expertise/ input and advise to R and D, clinical development, commercial, regulatory, manufacturing, legal and other functions
Provide medical leadership in therapy and product education by creating and providing educational and training materials for internal and external use
Provide expert medical guidance to medical affairs team members for exploratory, new product development and existing products
Develop medical and scientific relationship with KOLs/SMEs, and support advisory boards
Provide support for global evidence generation, publication strategy and implementation
Proven knowledge and expertise in general nephrology, chronic kidney disease, transplant, end stage renal disease and related fields such as physiology, pharmacology, diabetes, hypertension, etc
Excellent knowledge of hemodialysis and peritoneal dialysis.
Excellent communication skills written and verbal as well as presentation skills in English
Exceptional project management skills
Ability to travel about 30% of the time
Ability to work with cross functional teams, across regions and external partners
Education and Experience
Formal medical degree or equivalent ( eg MD, MBBS, )
Formal fellowship training in Nephrology specialty
Clinical nephrology practice of at least 5 years including peritoneal dialysis experience with direct patient care required
At least 5 years of industry experience preferred
