Position Overview

The Director, Supply Chain Planning & Logistics is responsible for setting the strategic direction of supply chain activities which may include, but are not limited to, planning, inventory control, outsourcing, vendor selection, warehousing and distribution, logistics and transportation.  Responsible for achieving order fulfillment goals.   Focuses resources on continuous improvement of the movement of materials through various supply chain processes, and establishes key performance metrics and benchmarks relating to supply chain to measure actual performance against goals on a regular basis. Promotes alignment by understanding and communicating customer needs and requirements throughout the organization.

 

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Set strategic direction and support staff in the development, implementation, and execution of supply chain processes in support of order fulfillment and business objectives.
  • Accountable for optimizing service levels and profitability.
  • Review and/or update supply chain practices in accordance with new or changing policies, standards, regulations, or laws.
  • Manage managers who are responsible for managing other supply chain associates.
  • Manage Project Managers who are responsible for leading strategic initiatives and projects.
  • Sponsors, and may lead cross functional teams in support of strategic initiatives both within the supply chain organization and across business units.
  • Responsible to provide management, finance, and the business with inventory projections, service level issues, revenue constraints, and issues impacting profitability.
  • Responsible to identify and resolve business issues impeding achievement of goals.

Qualifications:

  • Excellent leadership skills including sponsoring/leading projects with broad scope, cross functional nature, and an impact outside own department while promoting teamwork between departments.
  • Complete, in-depth understanding of all aspects of the business and supply chain strategies including total delivered cost, profitability, inventory turns and service levels.
  • Extensive experience managing budgetary performance and profitability (P&L)
  • Excellent communication skills (with staff, peers, and levels above) and ability to develop rapport with other functional leaders inside and outside area if control to influence decision making.
  • Ability to do analysis of tradeoffs between business objectives - ability to think systemically.
  • Requires ability to actively embrace change, challenge the status quo and make recommendations for improvements.
  • Requires the ability to change the thinking of, or gain acceptance of, others in sensitive situations.
  • Extensive experience Supervising, coaching, and developing others.
  • Proven ability of driving results through both self and team leadership.
  • Strong problem solving, negotiating, and presentation skills.

 

Education and Experience:

  • Bachelor’s Degree required, Master’s degree preferred with a minimum of 8 years related experience in supply chain management - warehousing, distribution, logistics, transportation, customer care and planning is required. Supply Chain Planning experience is highly preferred.
