Job

The 'Head of Production' as per the GMP Guide 2.3 has overall responsibility for the management of the Thetford plant and implementing the Quality policy, procedures and GMP in the factory in accordance with Corporate requirements. He/She must establish with the Quality Manager an internal quality assessment system to audit all operations under their control to verify the effective implementation of the quality system requirements. He/She has responsibility to enforce disciplinary action. The Plant Manager has overall responsibility for manufacturing and for the quality of the product manufactured.

Reporting to the Manufacturing Director, the Plant manager plans, directs, organizes, coordinates and controls through functional managers the optimum deployment and utilization of the human, financial and physical resources of the Thetford operations in the manufacture of products at the highest quality and value, whilst pursuing a high level of customer satisfaction and integrity.

The Plant Manager needs to achieve this within the framework of the Baxter Shared Values and Corporate Business Ethics.



ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

EHS: As a member of the Thetford management team you are the facility champions for the EHS Programs and are accountable for EHS responsibilities listed in section 1.5 of the Baxter EHS requirements book to include (list is not exhaustive):

•    understanding the facilities EHS program, management standards and practices, know the status of commitments and support in meeting them
•    provide the resources needed to meet applicable company, regional/business unit and facility EHS policies, objectives and targets;
•    routinely engage teams to motivate employees to achieve excellence in EHS performance have information, such as incident data, occupational health and wellbeing programs, routinely reported and discussed at the area/department meetings.
•    engage the support of EHS personnel in department/areas programs and in the planning of changes to ensure that EHS considerations are included.

Budget: Directs the preparation of manufacturing budgets acceptable to the Manufacturing Director and commits to these budgets, which include total manufacturing expenses, labour efficiency, conversion loss control, overhead spending control, activity levels, value improvement commitment and achievement of predefined inventory levels.

Strategic Planning: Determines and ensures that manufacturing capabilities and facilities are consistent with short, medium and long term production plans as well as growth projections, maintaining consistent service levels in line with Corporate targets.

Contacts: Ensures that the plant complies with GMP’s, specifications, SOP’s, safety and legal requirements.

Financial: Ensures consistent manufacturing cost reductions from one year to another in line with Corporate commitments/expectations. Furthermore, coordinates and supervises financial performance during each year to ensure zero or positive manufacturing variations with respect to budget. Through the Plant Finance Department ensures a correct and effective utilisation of allocated capital spending with a final view ensuring attractive return on investments or quality/regulatory compliance as well as ensuring that all financial activities comply with local, and Corporate governance principles.

Human Resources: Provides supervisory personnel with the guidance and performance management necessary for their development in order to ensure an adequate pool for current and future organisation needs. Ensure that such development occurs in an environment of empowerment as well as accountability and focus on results.

Quality: Drives a quality/costumer oriented philosophy throughout the organisation and ensures that the correct infrastructure exists within the Plant so as to guarantee defect free products/services.

QUALIFICATIONS:

The holder of the position must be in possession of university degree and must have experience in the functions of supervision of the production as well as a sound knowledge in the pharmaceutical field and the standards of Quality.  Knowledge of the management of the manufacturing units and the techniques of communication.
