We develop and deploy enterprise wide IT solutions that support critical operations from HR to Manufacturing, Finance, Quality Compliance, Legal and other functions within the organization.
 
Summary
 
The EIS Technical Specialist  role is to manage servers, process, monitoring, administration, suppliers, resolution and in-house tools in support of Baxter’s global infrastructure across Baxter’s Global Data Centres.This includes developing and enhancing existing technologies and processes in the areas of engineered systems and infrastructure, health sustainment, performance, and ensuring high availability, reliability, and resiliency.  Areas of involvement will focus on engineered systems running on Unix and Linux globally.  In addition, all platform and operations related SOP’s, quality compliance, policies, standards and best practices will be adhered to and managed for oversight and enforcement.  This role will interact with EIS staff, database, application, network, and data center department resources in within Global IT to manage the global infrastructure environments. This role will collaborate directly with other IT colleagues, internal customers, vendor resources and other contracted resources to infrastructure, engineered systems, data center operations, best practices, continuous improvement, and to ensure our services meet and exceed customer and business expectations.  Being able to manage multiple complex tasks or projects is a strong requirement.
 
 Job Description
 
  • Design, develop and maintain Unix and Linux environments globally. Provides operational support in addition to evaluation and implementation services for new products, technologies and solutions to address corporate business requirements.
  • Design and govern the cross datacenter infrastructure in keeping with enterprise standards. Plan, conduct, and technically direct projects or major phases of significant projects, including coordinating the efforts of technical support staff in the performance of assigned projects.
  • Responsible for maintaining all services related to the operations of all Unix / Linux servers including private and public cloud. Responsible for managing an off shore resources with advanced technology skills as well as strategic vendors such as Oracle, RedHat, Centrify, Nutanix etc.
  • Activities included are (but not limited to): Life Cycle Management, patching, capacity management, server maintenance, incident management, vulnerability management, audit compliance, server decommissioning and provisioning. Manage regular maintenance and support of existing environments, and new implementation tasks.
  • Provide ownership of technical issues and conduct performance tuning and troubleshooting. Analyze, evaluate, and plan a method of approach and achieve a solution for complex technical problems.
  • Create and maintain platform risk assessments and periodically assess the operational functions, performance sustainment and supplier end-of-life/support improvement and mitigations plans. Identify platform operation or implementation gaps and help develop solutions including process, procedures, tasks and options to address the detected situations.
  • Ongoing process improvement whereby the entire team participates in drafting support documentation and operational procedures and applying automation to operational procedures where possible.
  • Responsible for the development of the technology solutions and mapping the business requirements to systems/technical requirements to ensure they are in line with the enterprise architectural plan. Identify technical innovation and process improvement opportunities. Present new concepts and ideas to IT Management to establish or update standards on an ongoing basis.
  • Assist in all compliance requirements around Qualification, change control, IT CMDB administration, helpdesk ticketing and supplier SLA/SLO’s. Produce and report on key operations metrics to prove out KPIs, key operational performance measures, SLA’s at Operational and Executive level.
  • Coordinate and facilitate any escalated operations faults through developed process. Engage all necessary support personal internally and externally as needed and resolve the issues to meet the SLA.
  • Have an advanced understanding of IT infrastructure and enterprise architectures, strong understanding of various hardware (server, storage, network, etc), and expert knowledge of Operating System and Virtualization and technology infrastructure.
  • Good understanding of DR or BCP and excellent understanding of backup and replication technologies for multi-region disaster recovery capabilities.
  • Knowledge of industry trends and emerging technologies, and must be skillful in developing enterprise level infrastructure solutions. Experience architecting, evaluating and recommending new infrastructure technologies. Participate in department-level planning and strategy development processes.
  • Ability to plan, document, and manage multiple projects, tasks, and deadlines effectively. Provide guidance and mentoring to other engineers.

Qualifications

  • Undergraduate degree in IT/MIS.  Also, related IT certifications are a plus.
  • 10 - 15 year experience providing Unix/Sun Solaris systems administration support
  • 5 - 7 year experience in management positions, including leading technical teams.
  • Experience in planning, organizing and developing information technology tasks, projects, policies, procedures and best practices.
  • Practical experience developing and managing Unix / Linux platform and data center operations.
  • Experience operating within a large complex server and application environment with large number of servers.
  • Practical experience in dealing with and managing situations with vendors.
  • Strong communications skills in English (written and oral), particularly with managing IT operations. Must be able to communicate across all levels of IT and Business users.
  • Demonstrated ability to apply IT related knowledge and experience in solving problems or complex issues or faults. 
  • Ability to develop and implement solutions and enhancements to existing operations environments (e.g., upgrades, software patching, security certificates, hardware, monitoring etc.)
  • Excellent knowledge of operational and technology environments, including server platform and data center infrastructure, ITIL based best practices and compliance standards and SOP’s.
  • General knowledge of business acumen, business processes, operations management, budgeting and IT business office operations.
  • Good understanding of large applications (JDE, PeopleSoft, etc,), database (Oracle, RAC) and server connectivity designs is preferred.
  • Solid understanding of project management principles.
  • Disaster Recovery and Business Continuity in UNIX / Linux environments; Storage, Network, Firewall, etc.
