Description

The Process Engineer Co-op will be responsible for managing all aspects of assigned plant projects from concept, through implementation until final close.  Providing technical and project management support to key plant stakeholders.

 

 

Time Spent
Major Responsibilities / Activities
10%
Manage the design, installation and execution of projects to successfully meet all customer requirements.  Effectively manage issues and changes that arise.
30%
Identify, develop, evaluate and execute technical solutions as required, for Value Improvement Projects (VIPs), process & productivity improvements/automation, system/facility upgrades and other projects to support quality/regulatory and EHS. Provide various types of engineering support to all internal plant customers as required.
10%
Develop, update and review validations, engineering specifications, SOPs, standards, operating manuals and other technical documentation.  Develop clear technical documents to describe processes and their state of validation.
50%
Lead/ contribute to Process Management Teams to improve the operator and machine processes, improve preventative maintenance, resolve issues, maintain and improve production and quality targets, manage repair and maintenance costs, implement new process changes and increase equipment and process knowledge through training and benchmarking.

Qualifications

Required:
  • College or University Enrollment in Engineering with a focus in mechanical, electrical or industrial
  • Experience with robotics, Autocad, and practical use of Lean tools (6S, Kaizen, Value Stream Mapping)
  • 1-4 years of experience
  • Communicates well, minimally comfortable at the interpersonal and small group levels.
  • Able to organize own work and prioritize work for others.
  • Effectively leads and develops staff.
  • Able to make decisions given sufficient input and support.
  • Able to clearly and logically explain technical issues using verbal or written form.
  • Able to work with MS Office applications including Word, Excel, Powerpoint, MS Project
  • Able to read drawings, blueprints and any other technical system documents.
 
Preferred:
  • Year 2-4 of Electrical, Mechanical, Industrial, Mechatronics, Chemical engineering experience
  • Working knowledge of programmable industrial components (drives, vision, robotics).
  • Project Management experience
  • Communication is strength, above average interpersonal, small group and large audience skills.
  • Able to bring structure to a team/process so that efforts are concerted and organized.
  • Able to make key decisions in the face of ambiguity, balances accuracy and timeliness.
  • Excels at simplification allowing non-technical team members to understand the issues.  Produces correct, concise documents detailing technical content.
  • Strengths in MS Office (Word/Excel/Powerpoint/Access/Visio) and AutoCAD software.
  • Able to read, create, manipulate and review both 2D and 3D drawings, manually and using AutoCAD software.
  • Fluid process design experience with expertise in thermodynamics.
