The purpose of this role is to lead a team of 3-5 members and to be the functional lead for Marketing, Business Development and Market Development for Advanced Surgery in EMEA.
It also plays a vital role in defining and shaping the EMEA strategy and in driving an effective commercial implementation, together with the EMEA Lead for Advanced Surgery.
The person is to work closely with R&D, Medical and Marketing and the EMEA country/cluster leads to ensure execution of strategies and tactics.
He/she works collaboratively with regional, global cross-functional and cross-business teams and in-country Advanced Surgery teams.
The position reports to the EMEA Lead for Advanced Surgery, currently based in Madrid.
 
  • Works with AS EMEA Head to set the business strategy for the region including portfolio analysis & strategy, commercial execution and Distributor strategy
  • Point of contact for Business Development and Market Development initiatives and in charge of leading integration of acquisitions
  • Identify new market opportunities and new indications for Baxter´s Advanced Surgery product portfolio in collaboration with country/cluster leads; project and VOC on new indications and/or products / opportunities on all products (including current “tail products”)
  • Collaboration with R&D, Regulatory Affairs, Quality Assurance, Manufacturing and Supply Chain for new products/ countries
  • Ensure that the agreed strategy and tactics have buy- in and alignment with country and Franchise leadership and key functional stakeholders (e.g. Manufacturing, Regulatory Affairs, Market Access and Supply Chain at country and Franchise level as required).
  • Develop and implement rigorous product launch programs including appropriate pre-marketing and pre-launch activities to ensure commercial success.
  • Assist ECEMEA leader with geographic expansion and new product launches
  • Lead collaboration and coordination with Global & Country Marketing teams for Advanced Surgery and Marketing strategy & implementation (directly and through one of his/her team members depending on profile & background)
  • Collaborate with Global & Country Market Access colleagues on Market Access and Market Development strategy & implementation for Advanced Surgery (directly or through one of his/her team members depending on profile & background)
  • Take the lead for Commercial Excellence EMEA Advanced Surgery, leading the implementation of the annual Commercial Planning Process and of Quarterly Sales Operating Reviews (directly or through one of his/her team members depending on profile & background)
  • Build lasting relationships with key opinion leaders and gain insights from them for use in developing novel segmentation, targeting and positioning of the products.
  • Provide product, technical and competitive knowledge to increase comfort, competency and effectiveness of sales representatives and distributors. Co-travel in field with sales representatives and distributors to learn and identify key market trends.
  • Manage the expense budget of his/her area of responsibility
  • Other projects or duties within these functions as assigned

Qualifications

  • 5-7 years of Commercial experience in the Medical Devices/Pharma industry required
  • Masters degree, MBA desirable
  • People management experience required
  • Commercial experience (Marketing and/or Sales) in international healthcare across a broad area of disciplines is essential; Knowledge and experience in the Medical device sector would be a distinct advantage
  • Experience in Strategy, Business Development and Market Access are a clear plus
  • Experience in surgery a plus, especially in commercializing single-use or combination capital / single-use “surgeon-preference” products
  • Strong marketing / branding experience with proven track record of successfully leading product launches and market growth programs
  • Experience in working in a regional or global role with cross-country responsibility
  • Excellent communication, influencing, negotiation and collaboration skills
  • Excellent critical thinking & project management skills
  • Proven record in operating successfully in a matrix, cross functional, and geographically dispersed team environment
  • Fluent in English and at least one other European language (Spanish, German, Italian, French)
  • Position based in Madrid with availability for frequent international travel
