The role of the Development Engineer is to develop manufacturing processes which are safe, scalable, repeatable and cost effective through process development and optimization.
Role Responsibilities
  • Provide technical support for new and existing products, product enhancements and the introduction of product line extensions
  • Evaluating processes and products based on analyses of regulatory requirements, product quality needs, human factors, ergonomics, safety, economics and the environment
  • Provision of design control assurance and risk management support for the development of new products throughout the product lifecycle
  • Design and execute product development trials utilising design of experiment principles where appropriate
  • Development of experiments and methods based on statistical techniques to support innovation projects
  • Assume leadership roles for product and process development including plant support as needed and appropriate
  • Perform pilot plant trials in support of new product development (NPD) activity
  • Performing and writing validations of product, processes and equipment in accordance with FDA and ISO guidelines,  
  • Provide technical assessment of data that supports product design history files
  • Participate in design and process evaluations
  • Support supplier development and supply assurance for designated components and materials during product and process development
  • Participate in continuous improvement initiatives such as DFSS, EMS, Kaizen, Lean and Six Sigma problem solving


Skills and Experience
  • Sound knowledge of Good Manufacturing Process
  • Significant level of project engineering or project management experience gained ideally within a medical device development environment.
  • Experience of validation life cycle – equipment and process
  • Strong ability to apply fundamental engineering principles
  • Knowledge of Lean, Six Sigma and DFSS
  • Educated to degree level (or equivalent) in a technical or engineering discipline.
  • Fully proficient with Microsoft Project, Excel and Word
