Performs testing activities at the Chemical Laboratory in support to formulation and release of Jayuya Products including, initials, in-process and final samples testing. Perform testing of raw materials and water samples. Provide support to Chemical Laboratory personnel in activities related with sampling of Jayuya Water Systems, Maintenance of Laboratory glassware and wastes disposals. Follows current procedures and ensure compliance with corporate internal policies and external regulations.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Execute routine maintenance to laboratory equipment according to current procedures, as required by area management, ensuring any instrument service needed is timely communicated and coordinated. Fills the corresponding “Out of Service” Tag, as required, according to current procedures.
Manages laboratory equipment of moderate complexity such as pH, Optical Rotation, Conductivity, Titrations, Karl Fisher, Melting Point, Color, LOD, ROI, IR, UV, IR, Flame Ionization, Visual Inspections, Spectramax, Caliper, and any other of moderate complexity as assigned by area management, ensuring current procedures are followed. Reviews laboratory work related to the use of these equipment.
Responsible to achieving accurate laboratory testing results lies with the analyst who is performing the test.
Assists Laboratory Chemists in setting equipment of higher complexity, such as HPLC, UPLC, Atomic Absorption, Dionex and GC, and / or perform tests as requested by area management.
Assist in the disposal of laboratory wastes according to Company policies and procedures.
Performs routine testing of raw materials, initials, in-process and finished product samples versus current specification and procedures.
Responsible to achieving accurate laboratory testing results lies with the analyst who is performing the test. Should be aware of potential problems that could occur during the testing process and should watch for problems that could create inaccurate results
Pick-ups, delivers and/ or receives process samples to the chemical laboratory ensuring they are documented in the corresponding log book as per current procedures.
Assists in the monitoring and maintenance of the laboratory temperature and humidity charting system and replace the corresponding chart paper as required by current procedure
Performs sampling and testing activities related to Jayuya Plant and Laboratory Water Systems during routine or when required, for example after maintenance, interventions or modifications, (Extraordinary Maintenance Requests, EMR). Perform heavy metal conductivity and TOC analysis to water samples, according to current procedures.
Prepares and keep up date laboratory solutions reagents expiration dates and assist laboratory chemists in preparing mobile phase for HPLC.
Carry-out inventory of laboratory reagents, standards, equipment and glassware notifying timely to area supervisor when any material needs replenishment. Make sure that any expired material is retrieved and discard according to current procedures.
Keeps the laboratory work area or assigned systems organized and in clean conditions.
Follows cGMP's and cGDP's when performing work and notify area management in the event of any none expected or out of limit results is obtained when testing laboratory samples. Assist Laboratory Supervisor in the investigation process of non-conformances and out of trend laboratory test results.
Performs routine audit to assigned laboratory systems notifying area management of any discrepancy found and ensuring the observation is correct. For example, audit standards cabinet, desiccators, temperature charts, laboratory refrigerator, freezer, etc.
Complies with work assigned by the immediate supervisor within the established deadline, this may include working overtime at any shift or during Holidays, when required (for example during shutdowns, audits or special projects).
Teamwork oriented, manages diversity and handles multiple tasks at the same time.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to stand; walk; use hands to finger, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms; and stoop, kneel, or crouch. The employee is occasionally required to climb or balance and talk or hear. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds (with the appropriate safety equipment that company provides). Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, color vision.
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly exposed to fumes or airborne particles, toxic or caustic chemicals, extreme cold, explosives. The employee is occasionally exposed to wet and/or humid conditions; high, precarious places; extreme heat; and vibration. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.

The employee is required to use the appropriate Safety Equipment that Baxter requires to comply with all Safety and Security rules (in Regulated Areas), such as: safety glasses, safety shoes, uniform, special safety suit, gloves, etc.
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is required to use the appropriate equipment such as: computer, calculator, telephone, fax machine, copy machine, general and specialized laboratory equipments, and small precision tools.

Qualifications for this role
Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos. Ability to write simple correspondence. Education and Experience
Associate Degree in Chemistry; Bachelor Degree preferable; or five years related experience and/or training.
CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS
cGMP's Training, and other certificates or licenses that the immediate supervisor refers.
